    I don't disagree with the sentiment. But it's dangerous to set these precedents. I also don't think gay marriage is the same as blatant racism in the public sphere.
    Maybe not, but discrimination against gays at all levels begins to be comparable with racism, and this is a really strong counterweight to that.

    Maybe not. But I don't see that it does any harm either.

    No law ever accurately addresses whatever needs fixing in society. It's a very hit and miss process, and framing it as marriage just happened to be a winnable battle so that's what they did.

    Racism and discrimination aren't issues that can be legislated away. Those are societal problems that may take centuries to change. However, letting people get married is something we can handle as was giving equal rights to men and women regardles of skin color.
