Culturally relevant is indeed the word. Reason I started liking reading was because of one of my teachers when I was a kid, and it wasnt just your typical literature, but he enticed moi (and us) by giving us reprieve from usual boring stuff, by giving us fantasy/adventure/sci fi books most other pompous teachers would scoffed at (David Gemmell one of my fav fantasy authors due to that dude).

Couldnt be more wrong you pretentous little dweeb :D Majority of my siblings read the GOT book series, as do many of my friends, but I NEVER gotten what the fuss is about, tried first 2 books and they bore me, mainly because R.R Martins mundane writing style that I cant stand. The tv show is absolutely amazing though.
So, next time you catch your teacher by surprise reading Harry Potter, posting a pic of his cat on facebook using an iPad, playing video games or watching on-line porn and so on, you say: Thank you, Mr./Mrs. Smith for investing the time and effort to stay culturally relevant and make sure I get the best education possible.

:D

you are being way too serious ;) ... it's just things that people do and will do whether they are teachers or not. More often than not, the simplest explanation is the correct one, that was my point. Now, if you need to convince yourself that there is a higher purpose to grown-ups reading GoT or Harry Potter than just killing time, be my guest. :)

I'm not convincing myself of anything, your arrogant pretentiousness aside in this thread, my comment was just an observation of you in general since your return, almost nothing but shitty baffling posts compared to before.

I am getting the feeling you are not having one of your best days, so I will not respond to the above. If a day or two from now you still think this is true, well, sorry to hear that.
