Flachi Fails Drug Test Again
Francesco Flachi’s career could be over after the former Sampdoria star tested positive for cocaine again.
He had failed a routine drugs test after Samp’s game with Inter on January 28 2007, earning a two-year ban.
The veteran striker was welcomed back into football by Empoli at the end of February 2009, then moved to Brescia this season.
However, it has been confirmed Flachi tested positive for cocaine again after the Serie B match with Modena on December 19.
“It’s a bolt from the blue,” said Coach Beppe Iachini. “We hope the counter-analysis can prove the previous result to be wrong.
“Flachi has always trained with enthusiasm, eagerness and the right spirit. Obviously everyone is very disappointed both in terms of the family man and as a professional, because we’ll be missing an important player.”
Brescia’s official website released a statement condemning any use of banned substances, “but we remain close to Flachi and his family in this moment.”
As Flachi is almost 35 years old, it is likely his playing career is now over.
