I had to shield my eyes in embarrassment at the shell of a player he had become in recent years -- like Montero in his last season for Juve. And it was made only all the more embarrassing by knowing how capable of a player Nesta once was.

People got it in their heads that once awesome, forever awesome -- completely ignoring the awful performances on the field right in front of their eyes.

He was not of top form for sure and looked poor at times but he was far from the third worst defender in Serie A. He was out injured frequently and inconsistent nothing worse.
