Well, he was great, I never doubted it. I said it at least 5 times in my last posts.
But if we use his trophies as an indicator, Costacurta must be there next to him too.

And I see no flaws in my argument. I said that among 5-6 equals, or almost equally good defenders, the trophies he won made him the best in the eyes of many, which imo, he wasn't, and I've seen defenders better than him only in the last 20 years.

So I ask, in what way was Maldini better defender than Zanetti. What are Zanetti's flaws that Maldini doesn't have?

Trophies are the only objective indicator. But that doesn't mean it's the only thing we use when we come to a verdict. The point I was trying to make is that I believe that they do matter when you appreciate a player. If Costacurta has won so many trophies, there must have been something he was doing right. He was playing for arguably the best team in the world and he had his spot. All in all I don't think you could argue that Costacurta was a horrible player.

As for the Zanetti-Maldini comparison, I don't think it's necessary to answer the question, because Zanetti is one of the best I've ever seen and I think he was every bit as good as Maldini.
