Got your point Nick & yes it is very valid but the way Fiore put it (that is if he actually put it that way) is a major piss off. This problem however as you put it is bigger than the Fiore - Camo thing.

I'm not getting into the Fiore-Camo starting arguement...I was just addressing the inclusion of non-Italians in the national team which I think is faulty. It was faulty when Italy did it in the 30's and won World Cups and it is faulty today. It defeats the whole notion of "nation" and "national players". Not happy with the keeper? Look around there must be a keeper of your country's origin around who can do a better job..but then what is the point of homegrown talent? What is the point of citizenship and belonging to a nation if Mr. X who has only been here a few years and happens to have a grandparent of the nations origin can overtake the place of a player who was born, raised and educated in the nation.
Your touching a very complex situation here, i dont mean camoranesi-fiore situation, but the fact that some of the strongest nations in today football are using players who really doesnt belong to the country in question.

Take the example of Holland: Davids, Kluivert Reiziger, Seedorf, were born in Surinam (Deutch antilles) and has been playing for Holland for many years. France is the same stile :Thuram, Vieira, Makelele,Saha are not born in France and they play for the bleus....Maybe is disgusting, but the trend showed by FIFA is suggesting that this situation will increment in the future.

Lets also Not forget Zidane , his Nationality is Algerian ! but Lived in france !

Some of you say that Fiore has the right to say whatever he wants to , cuz he is an italian , But shouldn't he Have some RESPECTS for his team mates ! Camoranesi is not there to destroy italy , he wants to help them !!

Azzurri its different with France. Half the team arent from France :D

I remember seeing an article in the newspaper about France without the 'non-french'. Almost all good players were missing.

Right, but in Zidane's case, he was actually born in France to Algerian parents. He could have chosen either nation.

Watching the Italy match today, tv crew said that Max Vieri plays for Australia, and made the monumental error of saying that brother Christian was born in Australia but chose Italy. Christian was born in Bologna to Italian parents and then raised in Australia. Those folks should get their facts right for the tv audience.

I just know, that I would never let my kids play for any other country except Slovenia even if they would be born on the other side of the board.

Don't you think that is a decision they should be making on their own?

Btw, not that it will ever become an issue but if I were to choose my national team right now I would choose Norway. I've lived here all my life, it's my home and I feel Norwegian to a large extent. It would be completely unnatural to go with Poland as I haven't lived there for 18 years and the only connection I have is visiting once or twice a year. But I think Zidane is more French than I am Norwegian.

They will be making it on it's own, but I know they would choose Slovenia, because they would be raised like proud Slovenians (know evertyhing, the language, the history, what's going on there now etc. ... they would stay in touch although not living there). It's all about education.

Exactly and imagine Camoranesi who had GRANDPARENTS from Italy. It would be like your grandchildren choosing Poland over Norway.
France is in a different situation all together given its influx of immigrants from different parts and lack of les "FRANCAIS". It is much more multiculturalist than Italy. Same as the U.S. or Canada..these new nations would have a hell of time filling up their teams with names like O'Reilly, Brady and Jones. The 20th Century saw an influx of immigrants who helped build these nations they are a part of what it is today. Would Jacques Villeneuve race for France because his great great grandparents were from France?

Alright, very good. They should know those things and it will only benefit them to stay in touch with their homeland. But if someone doesn't have that or if they still choose to play for their adopted country, is that wrong?

Look at it this way, Zidane's parents were immigrants in search of a better life. Noone leaves their country on a whim, it takes a pretty good reason. Zidane was raised in France, lived his whole life there. He basically owes everything he has to France too. Do you think Platini would have spotted him playing for a club in Algeria? I doubt it. His entire life he has lived in France, been around French people and why shouldn't he represent them if he feels like one of them?

He hasn't forgotten his roots, he still has the same friends, visits Algeria from time to time and he's still a Muslim. He didn't go all Anelka with the money and fame (btw Anelka is over that ever since he went to Mail a couple of years ago and got in touch with his roots).

It's kinda the same for Pires, he was born to a Portuguese father and a Spanish mother iirc, but he chose to represent France cause that's where he felt at home apparently.

Hey I'm not debating Camo here, what I said was about Zidane. I completely agree on all that was said about Camo, it makes no sense whatsoever to choose Italy only AFTER he was rejected by Bielsa. It's outright wrong IMO.

It's not thát wrong, but dare I say that there's a lacking in caracter? I just know that if I were Zidan I wouldn't play for France, France already has soo many good players, it would be soo much better to play for Algeria and really help them out. Yes, France did him a lot of good, but he could give some of that goodness back to it's roots.

You're Polish, Martin ? Did your parents migrate or does it go way back to your elder generations ?

Btw, IMO Fiore didn't do any better against Camo in Denmark. I wouldn't blame it solely on them, but Italy was just not good today :frown:
