I'm top of Serie B with Cesena thanks very much to my created player Stuart Weekes but out of the Coppa Italia. Roma beat me 3-0 in the first leg so I went to the Olimpico with the odds stacked against me. Marco Bernacci and Weekes scored quality goals but I couldn't get the necessary third which would send the tie to extra time. Andrea Alberti and Bernacci both struck the woodwork.
Stuart Weekes, the Wayne Rooney of Serie B. :D

I haven't bought anyone but I'll be looking to strengthen my defence when the January transfer window opens. Who is a good but fairly cheap defender?
Well you have a few options. During my first season with Ternana I had a rather weak defense, so I searched all over for some cheap defenders. I ended up buying Anderson Polga from Sporting Lisbon. I am sure you have heard of him, and in the game he is like a 70 and came at a reasonable price. Another good buy is Troise, a player I used with Polga at CB at Ternana. Once you move to the Serie A and have a better budget, a fantastic but cheap defender to buy is the Captain of Monaco, Gael Givet. If I remember correctly he is only 19,000 and his marking and tackling skills are around 90, being an 82 overall. A very reasonable player to buy in the Serie A is Cristiano Zanetti :)D), as his price is only 14,000 and has good stats in the ball winning areas. I brought him to Parma last season and he played almost every game, and was very solid. Put a van Bommel or another playmaker next to him, and you have a great, but cheap midfield.

In the end the only defender I got was some cheap guy with a rating of 46 who plays for Ternana and I only got him because I needed to sign someone before I could sell again. I offloaded Cavalli and then brought in Kharja.

Weekes is curling in free kicks and hitting screamers frequently (he's an AM) and both Alberti and Bernacci have scored their share of goals.

@Andy: After earning promotion what kind of job offers did you get?

Well after my first season with Ternana I won Serie B by about 10 points and reached the Final of the Coppa Italia. Believe it or not I played Juventus and they won 4-2 on aggregate. The best job offer I recieved was for Parma, which I certainly took. Then after a few seasons I started again, won the Serie B with Hellas Verona, and the next year Parma did not come calling. But the usual clubs that offer a job are average Serie A sides; Bologna, Lecce, Messina, Siena, Livorno all came calling. Sampdoria came a couple times after trying (all you do is exit the Mediterranian region then go back into it to get more offers), but I did not get offers from the big three from Milan and Turin, the big two from Rome, Fiorentina did not come calling, and Udinese would never appear either. The best you can get in your second year after promotion is Parma, unfortunately.

I won Serie A by a tremendous margin but the best offers I got were from Livorno and Bologna so I opted to extend my stay with Cesena. On the opening day of the season I beat Roma 2-1 at the Olimpico and followed that victory up with a 6-0 hammering of Bologna. My most recent outing saw me lose 2-1 as I played host to Milan who are top of the table.

Stu, if you want to play with Juve as soon as possible, just do these steps below. Might be better than playing three seasons at lower clubs and having half of Juve retire.

Okay, its fairly simple actually. Just do this before you start a season:

Buy the some of the worst 11 players you can possibly find and put them in the starting lineup of Juventus. Make sure you make Juve less then 3 stars. Then start a season with any Serie B club, and make sure you get promoted to the Serie A during that first season. Before the start of the next season, the game will allow you to choose if you would like to switch jobs for another club, usually in the Serie A. After the second year, they only give you mid-table clubs like Bologna and Parma to choose from. Now since overall Juventus is very weak because of the starting lineup you gave them, you should be able to pick Juventus as your new team to coach. Then all you do is sell those crappy, non existent players to get rid of them, and there you go. You coach Juve. :)
