Lippi: I Snubbed Altidore Because He's Black
Football Italia

Italy head coach Marcelo Lippi said today that he decided not to opt for former Red Bull New York striker Jozy Atidore because he is "too black." The Italy boss made the comments just hours before his side take on the United States in the Confederations Cup.

"Altidore?" Lippi said. "Well, Donadoni wanted him here, but I don't because he's too black for this Azzurri. He might be packing heat and splatter my marinara sauce all over the street if he doesn't agree with my decisions. He's too much of a thug risk, but great player. Much better than Pepe."

These comments provoked a series of questions and outrage towards Lippi, who was then asked about Balotelli.

"Then what is Balotelli then you white-haired old fart?" asked Tuttosport reporter Luca Bologne. Lippi responded by saying, "he's a black Italien, emphasis on the e, cuz he ain't no nigger to me."

In other news, Italian centerback Fabio Cannavaro was charged with treason after stating he'd no longer eat any antipasti.

Around World Cups we've often talked about how the landscape of power in football might change over time. When will an African team make the final? Will the US ever become a power? What about Asian teams?

Here's the US squad. I removed all the names cause noone's heard of these people anyway. Just look at the clubs. Pretty lame. And that's quite a few years after football was supposed to become a major sport, after Beckham the walking advertisement would make it popular and so on.
Landscape of power will not change, it is very hard to rival the talent produced in Europe and South America. Even for countries like the Japanese, Koreans and Australians who seem to have the structure to develop over the years and reach a point where they can mount a real challenge.

But a good thing to consider is that its not only about these nations and whether they could establish the youth systems, encourage them, create a climate that is supportive of football etc. That is required to to be norm and maybe you would get some decent players and lucky if a couple were really talented.

Another point is that they cannot do this on their own, their whole content has to lift. For example a team like Switzerland plays against heavyweights like Germany, Italy etc and the same for Chile with Brazil and Argentina. Nations like Japan, Korea and Australia's prime comes when they play eachother or maybe when the play Iran, the Saudi's or China which is no easy feat but look how different we classify a big game here to what is classified in Europe or South America.

You get to a point where not much can be done on a national stage and regionally something has to be done to lift the quality. Australia is not even close to that point but they have one game to go and they haven't conceded a single goal! This group should represent the best of the best in Asia and not one team could score against the socceroos which haven't playing all that well too.
