If he meant it, this deal would've closed by now considering the only other alternative to Llorente effectively within our price budget and tactically, would be Dzeko. I think the reason he's holding out for e latter is because he perhaps sniffs the possibility of a loan deal with Shitty, and that might also allow him to move for JoJo with Matri/Quag. I don't know, it could be one way of looking at it.
Its being reported they want 18m plus a 4m bonus clause. Were offering 16m. It could be bs, but those figures seem realistic and fair. It's too small a difference, and he's a better player than to risk losing out on for 2m, especially since we paid that amount for Matri. The loan for Dzeko is an opportunity that if ever, will only exist in the last 2-3 days of the mercato. The player is completely demotivated, his value has dropped, and a loan could suit both parties. Shitty for their part are analysing who to go for before they make a move. It's pretty clear Marrotta is watching their next move. This is how I'm reading thie situation anyway.
Few scenarios:
A) We agree terms for Llorente with e player, offer an official bid with his team. Shitty develop an interest, and ask us to step aside so its not a bidding war. We could drop our interest despite having made e first move and 'advanced' talks, in exchange for a favourable deal with Dzeko. Taking an unmotivated player off their hands.
B) We actually move for Llorente and close a deal between what we are offering and what they want, or perhaps simply negotiate the bonus clause to suit us better. If this is the case, then this deal won't be dragging on much longer, because the longer we stay in this, the more teams get drawn towards the situation and it creates a demand and bidding war.
C) Marrotta taking the attention off some of our real targets, who we perhaps have no idea about or drawing the attention of some clubs who could be potential rivals for Dzeko's signature to Llorente and his situation at Bilbao.
None of this maybe true, but I'm just saying these are some situations we could imagine developing through these scenarios.

Ultimately it means nothing. True. But if reading about speculation bothers you, what are you doing in the transfer thread? For all the direct quotes and hard facts we share on here? Or for us to figure out what reports have more credibility - particularly as we do not work for the club and do not know what exactly is going on?

As history shows, when something is widely reported, there's usually some kind of substance to it. Papers saying Arsenal are interested in Llorente, is not a major stretch. Let's not be daft.

95% of the stuff posted here and elsewhere ranges from rumours to absolute bollocks, I'm just wondering why you have taken the obvious 'Arsenal are interested in [insert striker]' just as they are selling RVP story as being meaningful. You know, they might actually sign him, but there is nothing to suggest they are interested in him aside from filling in blanks and a regurgitated story across the world. If you post shit 100 times it's still shit, it doesn't become more credible.
Personally I don't believe any of these rumours unless you hear of interest. Agents have limited trust in this respect, because in the end their job is to play clubs off each other, they'll say what they want. Sporting directors often lie and do the same, but they can only get away with so much as fans pick them up on it. If a player comes out and confirms interest then I might sit up and take notice. We can talk about potential deals, but you said: That's not the case, it is not well-known, just widely reported.
Did you see what happened yesterday with the fake Llorente rumour? Many of these 'reputable' sources are no better than common forums, they just repeat each other's news, no matter how nonsensical it is. Even the BBC had a leading headline a few weeks ago saying we were trying to sign RVP and Suarez together!
