At the end of the day Cannavaro isnt good enough. Its no good to say that he'll bring experience, somehow if we had signed sheva up front I dont think your reaction would have been the same. I gather a lot dont watch la liga here.

But JuveJay, you are missing the point here, apart from the fact that we have signed a 36year old "traitor". The most important thing is that one more year has pasted and we have built nothing in our defense!!!
We made no step forwards, towards the build up of our future competitive team!!
When we had to sell Canna+Thyram and Zambro, we ve lost our entire D-line
Since then, minimal efforts has been made to rebuilt it.
We cannot build such a strong d-line within a year, but we should start making some additions by now.
Most of the players we got were cheap or free. None of them was meant to be a permanent addition (well apart from the cheaper than Milito, Andrade of course)
a real investment!
Since it has become painfully obvious that the lack of quality players in our defense is our weakest point!
It should have been our priority to enhance that weak defense!
The acquisition of Mellberg was of little help, both in the long run and also gave us no momentary gains. The addition of Canna, now the current Canna is completely useless in the long run. The presence of both Canna and Mellberg is catastrophic, because it will automatically means, that we are not making a fight addition, like Zapata, any time soon.
We do not only condemn our current team to mediocrity, but also our future potential too!! If we were buying Zapata instead of Canna, he might or might not offer what Canna, might or might offer for the 2009-2010 season,
but he would also be of far greater importance/help for our future too.
With Canna, we get just a decent back up solution, not a real upgrade of what we have now and we also sacrifice a slot for a possible upgrade for both now and the future!!
The transfer indicates that we dont have the ambition to compete with the best, this transfer indicates that we are not planning to create a competitive team, with quality players at all posts. Canna is not only just a quick fix for 2 positions (CB)

So you think that Grygera, Molinaro and Chiellini have learnt nothing this year, this hasn't made them stronger because we are not winning and keeping clean sheets?
You learn much more when you make mistakes, winning is easy. We don't have experienced champions in defence so we can't expect to have a great defence. Next year throw in Cannavaro and another years experience for those guys (not Grygera, never going to be top quality in my opinion) and that is how players build as individuals and a unit. Perhaps Molinaro or the rest will never be good enough but his improvement has been clear to see.
