Thanks. Reading losing out on Diego, Canna being our only defensive acquisition with possibly losing Criscito, Inter signing Diego or Ribery, Buffon leaving, Trez leaving, Camo leaving, Gio leaving, Ranieri not leaving, blah blah blah...I'm getting an ulcer and that leaves me with one option...

I'm going to get another beer.
I'm not too concerned about many of those things.

Ranieri is totally dead man walking right now. No way he's around in 2 weeks. Its clear even to the board, its going to be devastating if he stays much longer. Like, UEFA Cup devastating.

That means, they likely hit the brakes on everything to find a new coach.

Bad news with that is we'll likely lose Diego to another team.

Good news is it means Trez, Camo and Buffon are likely to stay, and Giovinco is not moved on some ridiculous move, because the new guy will likely want him, as 99% of the footballing world do. Losing Diego might mean someone else slips free from another club, like Silva or Ribery.

Cannavaro is still better than Legro and Mellberg. Its still the wrong type of move, but he's at least useful. Ideally, the new coach, be it Conte, Gasperini, or someone from left field sees the value Criscito brings, and brings him back.

I am actually, i ve been since last year, or the last couple of years:
CR was a dead man walking since the day he joined, but did we learn anything from our mistakes?? Is Conte a step forward?? Since when?

Even IF CR finally goes away, our problems will not magically disappear along with him.
Our board will still be here, and so will their decisions and influence...
O, and Molinaro and Grygera and Marchionni and Legro/Mellberg as starters...

If someone else buys Diego, then indeed, we would have more chances on Ribery and Silva, but... they are far from realistic targets.

We also had some priorities this year; VDV, Aquilani, Alonso, but we ended up with poulsen in the end. As long as Secco is there, we cant expect any miracles...

I wonder why we are no longer interested in VDV. The club likes bargains and he would defn be one with the coming revolution at Madrid. I remember people saying the club was mad about him last season. HE would be a vastly cheaper option to Silva, Ribery and Diego at the moment. The money we save could bring in a player like Miguel to play RB or Zapata as a CB instead of Canna.

Yes it is.Where is it from?
my friend (a Madrid supporter) send it to me laughing.

apparently juve offered Canna a one year deal with an option of extending to two years based on his performance. his agent will try to secure the two years though.
also, he is expected to sign within the next two weeks.

I was excited to see Cannavaro back again, but on second thoughts I don't think he is gonna do something more than Legrottaglie. The real change we need is a young and fast defender. I think we're gonna regret this signing when he gets owned by a fast striker in the CL next year.
Pace is all well and good, but only if a defender can defend with it. Are there many defenders of the right age who can defend and have athletic ability who are available and for a price we can afford? I can't think of many, either way you would be taking a gamble unless it is a world star.

Say Zapata for instance, he is young and seems to have all the attributes required, but I have seen him make one or two horrid mistakes, and he would undoubtably make more playing for Juventus at the top level. With Cannavaro you would see less mistakes, but perhaps not so much in an all-round capacity and certainly not in any long term scenario or as an investment. But this is the thing, we as fans demand very high standards from our club and its players and staff, so that means winning and continual improvement. Whether we would win in the short term with younger players who have potential to be champions is another question. Will we be happy seeing more younger players come in and have another two or three years of improvement or are we now demanding great signings, Diego, Silva, Ribery etc? Is that realistic?

If, for example, Secco and co added a young talent or two like Zapata/A. N. Other to an experienced signing like Cannavaro, then the Cannavaro signing would suddenly look more appealing. It would provide a balance. I'm not saying this will happen, but surely they see the same flaws as we do, so is a probability. Central defender, full backs, midfield-attack linkman. This is why I give the signing of Cannavaro the benefit of the doubt as a stand alone signing. What the sporting directors achieve from our mercato as a whole will determine our season, and I prefer to wait until the end of the window to make a judgement on signings. Even then, it will be difficult to tell how that will affect the team.

What I don't agree with is running a player down before he has a chance to prove something. If any of you guys don't like Cannavaro for his actions in 2006 then fair enough, treat that as a seperate entity. If you think he is well past his best and are unprepared to give him a chance because of that then that is up to you, you make that choice based on watching him, not from general concensus or opinion. Don't mix the two, he isn't a crap defender because he is a 'traitor'. It all boils down to how he plays, if he plays well and Juve are on the up as a team then all this traitor talk will be forgotten quickly, this is football. If he doesn't play well then he will be judged on that, we have to wait and see. Let's have a bit of patience in this era of demanding instant success. Secco and co have quite a tough job balancing between creating a team for today and one for tomorrow, perhaps they aren't up to the task but I think this will be a defining season for their future. If they get it wrong this summer there is little coming back from that, we can't have another season of underperforming.
