Aaaargghhh. Enough with the "he'll teach Ariaudo, Chiellini, Josef Fritzel, the man on the moon to be a good defender". He's going to be playing, not coaching. He'll have enough to worry about trying to keep up with Pato, Balotelli, Milito, Cedric Konan and the like, never mind teaching those around him!
He'll be 36 at the start of next season. It'd be like signing Nedved to be a starter for the next 2 seasons.

I don't understand how Cannavaro will teach the youngsters anything, if he is making mistakes playing week in week out, and they are watching his calamitous defensive displays from the bench? :shifty:

I don't see how his signing fits in line with out long-term plan, because he is clearly a stop-gap solution, and a pretty shoddy one @ that.

I hope this deal falls through as a result of Claudio Ranieri not staying on; if push comes to shove and he still signs for us, I hope he plays no more than 20 games next year. He will be cruelly exposed @ the WC 2010 in South Africa. You read it here first.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if Cannavaro does indeed end up playing for us, we'll be pleasantly surprised by his performances. A second renaissance?

you got a point. he was rubbish before he came to us the first time. but bare in mind he had thuram next to him and capello.

this time around he wants to be in the world cup.

Even if he comes. we should treat him as our savior. he is just another decent defender at this point. so we need to get another defender to complete our lineup.

the only positive thing about him - Ariaudo and maybe even Chiellini himself will learn alot from Fabio...
he betrayed us, no questions about that!

FORZA JUVE
IF Ariaudo is still around. As for Chiellini, he would rather be more worried to cover up, for those fast players Canna cant reach...

If we need someone to train our defenders, there specialized men for that job!
Meaning the coach and his assistants. I dont disrespect Canna's experience, but some players are just marvelous by nature, they cannnot explain to others how they perform those miracles.
The only way Canna would teach our younger defenders, would be to teach and lead them by example! But at the age of 36, even this way will have limited effectiveness...

He won't be as bad as some here thinks IMO. But the very fact that we're going for cannavaro instead of a long term solution for that position is the problem.

If at the end of the summer we manage to sign Diego/silva , a quality fullback and cannavaro then it would be a decent move for the guy. But if we fail to sign a highly rated "young" replacement for nedved and if we ignored the fullback problems that we have then it would be one of the shittiest moves that we've done lately........

Chiellini can learn from him. As can Ariuado and Criscito if he returns.

If we bring back Criscito, and give him the left back role, where I think he is more likely to be a success than if we put him in the middle. We also desperately need an improvement on our left back area. De Ceglie has promise, but needs more time. We need someone solid in there, not Molinaro. Or De Ceglie...as a starter I mean.

Criscito and De Ceglie for the Left.
Chiellini and Canna in the middle, with Ariuado getting more games, and Legro kept on as a reserve. We need another centre back, one more, of promise, would be enough to push out mellberg and knezvic...Its at right back where we have the other major problem in defence. Grygera and Zebina...Mellberg also can play there, but can get embarassed too easily these days. He is out of his depth at the top level. But so is Grygera...Not sure about Zebina...if fit, he could at least be solid, if unspectacular...Still, we need someone in that role who could be our future. Criscito could be our future on the left, with de ceglie...Criscito could end up being the future, in the middle, alongside CHiellini...and who knows how Ariuado is going to progress??? There is nobody who could end up being the future of a Great Juve, playing at right back.

Diego, Criscito and a right back...and perhaps another young centre back...that is not asking for miracle. And it is what we need. clearly...
