But it's his speed in everything. He doesn't tackle the way he used to, he isn't able to make interventions the way he once did, so it's not just like his sprinting is off. It's everything.

And to be honest, his decision-making has been off, too.
Cannavaro always played a high-risk game. Like Chiellini, he goes towards the ball and player trying to intercept the ball early. He never waits. So if he gets slower and thus his timing is off he gets all the more exposed due to his playing-style.

Surely I don't understand!!
Nedved, Giggs, Zanetti, Maldini (2years ago), and even Del Piero, how old are these guys??
They don't play like they used on their 26's, but are good team players, who with the pass of the years won experience and changed is way of playing...

Please!! I am sure that nobody disagrees that Cannavaro will only improve our team!! Juventus is all that matters!!

Leave your hard feelings behind!! Today a friend, tomorrow a enemy and vice-versa. Life is just like that. We need what is good to us and now Cannavaro is good for us.

Yeah, well that might be the main reason for his drop in form, which is normal concidering his age though. You don't forget how to defend, it's just that your body doesn't let you do some things you could do before.
If Cannavaro isn't much slower though, then he might not be finished yet.

Either that or he was never a WC defender :D
Afterall, if his ass is covered by the 2DMCs and Pepe in Real, you could argue the same with Emerson/Vieira/Gattuso/De Rossi ..... Nesta/Thuram.

Of course he was a world class defender.

Its not the same thing, he used to make some absolutely brilliant interceptions back when he was at Juve, he was a great tackler and a good reader of the game. Now in Real he doesn't really add that much to their defense, you will notice the difference now that Pepe is out for the rest of the season.

winning the CL is all that matters to Real, it would be like a new coach coming ina dn saying he wants to play delpie and giovinco every week. it may not be realistic but it would certainly get the fans on your side

tbh Canna's game is not about pace but more the reading of the game, if it is only his pace that has deserted him then he can still cover that with his exceptional reading of the game and positional sense, if that has gone....well then he is completely fucked
Even if his game wasn't all about pace, the fact that he lost a yard or two makes a big difference, because like Dom said he plays a high risk game, and his body just doesnt let him do things he used to do 3 years ago.

Thats a potential problem we could have if he comes back. Two players that always go for the challenge don't compliment eachother. I was highly critical of chiellini because of that aspect of his game, but fact is that the he plays and not much will change.

We will need a couple of very capable full backs to cross cover their positions.

Indeed, so I still want a defender who's a bit more stationary and can control the play at the back, both from a defensive point of view but also when he has the ball. No more nonsense long balls from the back.

yeah now that you re offloading alonso you have enough funds to sign agger :D
Wages for Agger aren't the problem, it was more a promise of future involvement in the team.;)

Also looks like Alonso may not be the midfielder leaving, apparently Javi has a few gentleman callers.

It would be an extremely stupid move selling either of them, Xabi has been one of the best players in the EPL this season and Javi even though he hasn't been in his world class form this season is still a world class destroyer when on form, the two make one of the best midfield pairings in Europe. Selling either of them would cause Liverpool to start from scratch.

I'm so on the fence on this move, I will never forgive him for not staying with us in serie b but I wasn't on the BOD so who knows what the real story is when that happened. But if we are going to sign mediocre type of players in that position I rather take a chance on Cannavaro and see if he has one or two seasons left in him, Ciro had some good games in him when he was in his last years with us.
