I came to the conclusion today that in reality no matter what you do or what good you bring to the world, there will always be a few who will hate you for what you do. Al Qaeda and other Muslim extremist organizations are trying to persuade people to believe in their false ideology, and are successul in convincing some into believing that there is an actual Holy War that must be dealt with. These simple people who fall victim to the propaganda these Extremists spew start to think about these false notions their leaders present to them; "The US and their allies are trying to destroy the Muslim world, we need to wage Jihad against them"...."We are trying to protect the Muslim world and faith by destroying the infidels that threaten it" and all that other nonsense. What these people do not understand is what I'm sure these sick bastards who lead Al-Qaeda do....the more innocent people they murder, the more the Western allies will commit to the War on Terror. Osama Bin Laden and others MUST know that we will never ever back down against them, however they couldn't give a rat's ass....their justifications for killing innocent people change everyday, and they will continue to kill no matter what is happening in politics and no matter who is holding the key to power. Their "faithful" followers do not understand their leaders are causing them suffering by making countries deal with their threats and will continue to cause them suffering in the future. In reality these Extremists are bringing suffering to their own people, however we all know their leaders couldn't care either way with waging a war that doesn't even exist. That's why they're called terrorists.
That's where you're wrong. It's dumb to think terrorism will end if everybody just minds their own business. Need a reason why? Greed and power. Terrorism was around before the US invaded Iraq, even before Iranian extremists took several US citizens hostage in Tehran during the mid 80's. If everyone would pull out and mind their own business, what would extremists do then? If not continue to terrorize Western countries, they would persecute their own people, much like Saddam Hussien or the Taliban or Slobodon Milosevic or what have you. To sit back and take a nonchalant "let's not do anything" attitude will get you nowhere and will not resolve any problems. As the famous quote says, the only way evil will triumph is if good men do nothing. All I see in your post is the same badwagon "blame the West" nonsense again.

Well I tend to distrust any form of cultism. And I equally loathe the Islamo-fascists and the Christo-fascists. But my point was that if the Islamo-fascists had the technology, I'm pretty sure they'd only attack military targets, with the odd "collateral damage". That way they could claim the moral high ground like the Christo-fascists currently are. You know, since pulling a Falluja and stuff is always more humane and thus less publicised than suicide-bombing 50 odd innocent Westerners.

Andy, just ask yourself now. How are we being misled by our leaders for their personal gains? How do we shoot ourselves in the foot regularly as we buy into their campaign promises and watch them pass laws and introduce regulations that do us harm?
*drumroll* right again. you are on a roll, Andy. Terrorism will continue but we can do something about how widespread it is. According to "60 minutes" (take that as you will), most Palestine kids want to grow to become suicide bombers because that is the "star" figure in their culture right now. It used to be actors, musicians, now it's being a martyr. The people who blow themselves up killing Israeli soldiers are very happy because they know it will make their family proud and it will make other families admire the fact that they raised a suicide bomber. They also leave a video tape before they "go" where they say goodbye to the family, how happy they are right in this moment just before it happens and so on.
So yes, terrorists who blow up a train in Madrid are doing it for greed and power. But it stands to reason that being a suicide bomber doesn't bring you much power, very brief power in any case. So they leader gets his recruits from the population, takes advantage of them, and the more people suffer on a daily basis the more people are gonna be willing to be recruited.

It has to do with the power of reiligion, Desmond. You can make people do anything in the name of religion and it doesn't really surprise me anything, we are talking about our basic belief system. Religion defines our ethics. If we are "taught" religion by someone who wants to guide us in a certain direction, they will be able to do so.
That may be so Martin, but why is it that way? Terrorism has much deeper roots than just greed and fight for power, espcially in Palestine. How would you feel if your children got murdered by Israeli soldiers on a day to day basis, if you had to go through countless checks and soldier harassement just to get to your job which you need to provide for your family, if you had no rights in your country, and were actually a prisoner and a foreigner on your own land. I see Israel as nothing more than another South Africa,
All I'm trying to say is that it's easy to dismiss these people as animals, taking the moral highground saying that we are better than them and that we could never do such things, but that's simply not true. There's a potential terrorist, murderer, criminal in every one of us, and there is nothing any man wouldnt do under certain circumstances, whether it be stealing, murdering or carrying out terrorist attacks.
Every one is a potential terrorist under the right circumstances, and thats why it's so hard to stop terrorism.
