Henry shouldn't be singled out for this, lots of players dive, he should get a reasonable ban and fine like any other player. He should take responsibility come out and apologize to the Irish players. The Irish were cheated out of a place in the WC and have a right to be angry but demands to replay the match are just naive, it won't ever happen.

Oh and on Grosso's pk against Australia, the defender did make contact with him instead of the ball which may according to the rules be a pk but Grosso made a meal out of it and the clutching the hair in pain act was pathetic. I wanted Italy to win in that game, but the manner in which they did was ugly

But Matterazzi was sent off extremely harshly in the early stages...

everyone keeps forgetting that.

Just home from paris.cant get over the dissapointment what an atmosphere the away fans created at the stade de france.

just a couple of my own thoughts.

henry's delibrate handle ball assists pisses me off especially as he always speaks of fair play and so is very hyprocritical. but i dont blame him as i would have done the same(minus the over the top celebration) and i believe 99% of professional players would have done the same thing.

The fault lies with the officals especially the linesman who was perfectly position but missed the offside on squillaci who stopped mcshane from clearing and then henry's handball.

also as cannavaro said today credit to the irish fans in the stadium estimated at 15000 for not rioting and causing trouble when the incident happened and afterwards in the city.

algeria qualified and some of their fans caused a lot of trouble in paris last night would have hated to see if they had failed to qualify.

unfortunatley duff keane and o'shea missed great chances to score a second and decisive goal.

but to loose out to the star studded french team over two legs to a deflected anelka shot and a long ball then handball assisted goal never should the french be allowed to look down their noses and say we play beautiful football and ireland are just long ball specalists and they should never accuse any team of cheating them again.

goalline technology is a must or even the two officals behind the goal like in this seasons europa league.

on a good note i had €100 euro on ireland to win in 90 mins at 13/2 so it paid for my trip. but how one of the most couragous performaces and results in irish football history is ruined.

no amount of french people in the streets of paris stopping me and apologising will change that. and the match report on the fifa website never even mentions the handball. i dream of a replay but its not going to happen the lets hope fifa finally wake up and move out of the stoneage.

i hope ireland get france in the euro 2012 draw in feb. although revenge then will not get us to south africa.

i dont know if ireland would have beaten frace on penalties but i would have loved to experience a shoot out in the stade de france

I have to applaud that post because we rarely see a person getting his point out without cursing and stuff. We need more of that so bravo and sorry for what happened.

Materazzi's red card was harsh but that has nothing to do with the Grosso - pk incident, two wrong decisions shouldn't be accepted as balancing each other out

i agree i think thats what happened last night as the linesman and ref were not sure if they were correct in denying anelka a penalty and gouvou a goal, (both were correct imo as anelka dived after throwing his legs into given and gouvou was offside) so they made up for it by letting the goalstand.

Govou was clearly offside, Anelka's pk was less clear. There was no contact on the ball but similar to the Grosso incident the player made the most of it, IMO it would have been a harsh pk to give

But what pisses me off we're quick to stick up for australia, but had Matterazzi not been sent off harshly, I honestly think it would have been game over long ago.

And why does everyone assume that Australia would have won anyway ? The way the english press tell the story, its as if we scored a last minute away goal that put us through.

I think a replay of the game is the fairest thing FIFA can do. Henry should be banned for the replay too. But tbh, that will be in the French's favor as Domenech will not drop Henry unless he's forced to :p

There should be no replay. There was no replay after what south korea did to spain and italy in 2002, so there shouldn't be one for this either. It's too late now, Fifa need to set new rules for the replay system for the future, otherwise it won't be fair to allow the france v ireland be replayed and let others go through.

Nah, they wont replay the game because they only want one outcome, which they got: France qualified for the WC.

I hope Henry teams (Barcelona/France) loose a game in the future in controversial/cheating situation. I bet Henry is the first to come out with the: Why is handball allowed, its cheating, we are supposed to have fair play in the game.

Well then it should happen to Barca, if they lose the final of the CL to a 93rd minute handball by Van Persie, you won't see me complaining :p

don't worry it's already happened. 2004 Carvellho pulls Valdes out the way for terry to score the goal to knock them out.

If fifa want to be fair they should act NOW and set new rules for the future. To make sure the likes of what happened two days ago, is avoided.
