Major international tournaments were exciting back in the day. Something to look forward to for months. Now there is so much football. You just got through the CL final and then the first game of the group stage at the Euros or whatever starts.

At this point the World Cup is the only thing that really excites me, but now they've made that into a tournament with a billion countries too.

Meanwhile Talksport spent the morning talking about how much england lacked a 'Rodri' type player I mean this just makes me laugh, When england were humiliated by Pirlo and england they said the same thing then "We need a Pirlo..." "Wiltshere can be our Pirlo"

Truth is there's enough quality in that england squad, just thankfully whilst the players have improved immensely from the england players of the past 10/20/30 years, their managers are still shit and prehistoric.

Lol, love their overanalyzing, they tried to play like Italy, keeping it tight and holding out for moments. In the world cup they'll try to play like Spain, focusing on heavy pressing and push it out wide to the wingers. If there's one nation that isn't short of quality to win it, it's England. Comparison is the thief of joy. I think they should be proud despite playing utter shit because with that type of football they overachieved. As for Southgate he will stay as he tries to work on a possible blended fusion on Italy and Spanish style, because that's hard to do. This might be a good thing for once.

When players were complaining about the rise in the number of games and fatigue, the response from the fans (including here on Tuz) was that you are getting paid millions to kick a ball about, stop complaining and dribble. Which is such a weird take.
We are in the private equity phase of football where every dollar that can be squeezed out, will be squeezed out even if it means the quality of football goes to shit and there is a major tournament every other week.

there were 2-3 good matches , but they were too few for such a tournament reasons 1. UEFA's Greed 2. Increasing the number of participants for small teams 3. A lot of matches that everyone is tired of reduced competition

Palmer scored an important goal in the final but not many teammates came to congratulate him, or nonchalantly hug him (like Watkins for example). It seems like English players from different clubs still can't get along together.

Unpopular opinion but I think Palmer is head and heels biggest talent. He's so cool and calm like a cucumber, has a fugly face you think he's got a syndrome and wanna punch, shake and wake up, but this kid is unreal. If he goes abroad, I think he will turn into world class, a step or two up from Bellingham.

This sort of thing has always been a challenge for England. Years ago the Man Utd and Arsenal players famously used to clash all the time in big games and there were cliques that formed for the NT. I get the impressions that Sourhgate has built a better culture, but the advent of the modern player means that it's likely you will still find issues here and there.

Clearly Bellingham is nr one by a distance. But I think Palmer is similar level to Saka and Foden, but he has more of a clutch gene then both. He relish the opportunity of being the nr 1 guy in a team much more then they do when you watch all 3 of them.

As expected. He said before the Euros if he don't win he will resign.


He done an admirably good consistent job with them for near decade. But you can't be afraid to play your game every time, be subdued and just grind out with cautious it will solve itself at end mentality, and win titles.

It will take you far to play that careful with this level of top quality players, strong organised defense is effective. But to go all the way you need to impose yourself and go for it, just 5-10 minutes end of games when you get desperate to equalise. Then go back into a shell when you do.



Hope the next England coach don't dismantle the organised strong defensive foundation of Southgate, it's effective base. But add more of an attacking gameplan with direct approach and sense of identity.


Don't try to copy Italy, Spain or any flavour of the year team who just beat you. But try to cultivate a football identity that works for you.

A footballing culture that for decades was based on kick and rush football, and kids playing on full sized pitches. It's only now they've realised to coach kids to play smaller size games to learn how to keep the ball better. Their culture right now is only existent to what the manager wants to play and right now the quality of English players is not matched by the quality of English managers.
