Those proposed lineups are absolutely disgusting. Spalletti is a moron of the highest order.
Ofcourse he is. He's been literally a loser for most of his career, won a Russian league title almost unchallenged. Won a scudetto when the league was super weak. This is the same spalletti that got humiliated 7-1 by man utd ffs.

Guaranteed win for Switzerland, with Fagjinho strutting around the pitch like a slothful cuntbag. Schweiz are going to have a field day against that garabge midfield and Di Lolenzo.
Xhaka is gonna be fucking laughing when he gives jorginho the run around.

When's the last time Italy lost to a rank outsider in a knockout round?

Italy will stumble and fumble but will get the job done imo. That injury time goal by Zaccagni will be more significant than you think.

those rankings and past history don’t mean much when it comes to this competition. Italy is lucky to make it out of the group.

I’d put my money on the Swiss

Maybe South Korea? But that was a farce, and Italy had a very strong team. This team is as bad or worse than 2012, but I can't see a repeat.

Portugal were absolute ass in 2016 too. Finished 3rd, got through a lucky PK shootout against Poland and were fortunate to have some lucky draws go their way.

Not saying Italy will win the whole thing but I don't think group stage performance matters all that much in a knockout situation. It's all about turning up on the day and Italy are more experienced in these situations.

It's not like they're facing some juggernaut like Spain or France.

italy hasn't qualified for last two world cups. they are not a serious team or favorites imo. if anything they are the under dog.
Italy are never the favorites, nor the underdogs . They always play to the level of their opposition (the Spain game was an exception, they got completely destroyed in that one).

I'm with you. I didn't actually fret much about that 2016 Portugal squad because it had a conservative coach who could butt-clench so tight, nothing could get in. That means you draw a bit and need luck, but you don't really lose. And that strategy worked. Not a likely successful one, but probably a more likely strategy to win a final for Portugal than Martinez's "everyone just get open" strategy for a more talented 2024 Portugal.

People get hung up on short-term momentum in these elimination competitions when the core is really just about survival.

None of the sides left in this tournament are good enough to drag opponents and nick them by a goal or more. Everything is going to come down to chances and odds and just survival.

Italy squad has enough strength to compete for the title but spalletti doesn't know how to sets players to fit in the system. Mancini's team was way more ahead than him.
