Far from gutted? and you know this how? I cant believe how stupid you are if you really believe that. We simply did not have the quality to compete with such a high level of competition i'm sorry for Ireland being at the Euros i hope for yours and Italys sake we wont be at the next one so you can have a much greater team get a result off of Spain to bale you chokers out!
I prefer two teams that try to win. It's nice if there's a game on. Any team is better than Ireland, could be Andorra for all I care.

For one, instead of deciding BEFORE the game that they don't have a chance and say "fuck it, lads, enjoy the stadium", they could TRY to win. The Irish never seem to try that. Perhaps there is an off chance that they win. But unless you try, you really don't know. The Irish are poor fans, because they set themselves up to fail. If you set yourself up to fail, you never end up disappointed. Their heart is never crushed, because they lose that all important game. There are no important games to the Irish. The Irish are never gutted, because they never try.

As a sportsman, I find that disgusting.
They tried allright! They would never have been at the euro if they had this mentality you talk about. your just trolling

All of this because you think the credit they are given (admirable fans) is undeserved? Big deal :D
It's annoying, because it is a form of stupidity that has slowly corrupted a great deal of our society. It is nothing but a stereotype and people are failing to grasp the much deeper concepts behind them. The Irish set themselves up to fail, so they will never be disappointed. I can understand that. It comes from years and years of losing. But to say that this mentality is admirable? No, far from. It is, quite simply, the worst mentality an athlete can have.

Like when Ireland tied the match 1-1 against Croatia? I'm sure they were like "Haha, silly Croatians, thinking we can beat them. Here's a couple goals just to nail the punchline".

And stop talking in such dramatic generalities, it sounds like you're whining. Ireland obviously "try on occasion" because they did make the Euros. If not for an Henry hand ball they would have made the World Cup.

You see? Blatant lie. The nasty French undeservedly beat the kind Irish. The French were better in both games and even without that goal it was far from certain the Irish would have qualified. In fact, it was still rather unlikely.

I saw no attacking subs when they were behind 2-0... At that time you change tactics and sub more offensive players in. no matter who you play against - theres not embarrassing result (other then 4-0, lol) If you are behind in this match you give it your best and they did not (the coach did not)

But you do. All the time. And then you blame it on a circumstance you can't control.

"Henry touched it with his hand"
"We're a small country"
"Our players play for Derby County"

No. You suck. Don't look for excuses. You suck. Try to improve. But no, you won't do that, because if you try and fail, you might be disappointed.

Bilic: 'Ref favoured Italy'

......However, the tactician also criticised the performance of referee Howard Webb.

“Many Coaches don’t want to talk about referees, but I do not agree with this approach. I might not be objective, but there was a clear penalty on Nikica Jelavic, while the free kick for Andrea Pirlo’s goal didn’t exist.

“I am not trying to stir up controversy, but the referee favoured Italy.”

However, they were still in the match before that point. Not being talented enough and laying down are two different things. If you want to criticize the Irish for being cowards for the performance of the Spain game, fine. They deserve it.

But they played hard against Croatia and gave France a run before the World Cup and managed to Qualify for the Euros. So obviously they do think they can win some matches and play hard at least some times. Not never.

You're talking about the fans and about our attitude i am pointing out that it is not in our nature to behave as you are saying we are. There was no player for us tonight that wouldnt of tried to give his best.
Say it then. Say you lost because you suck.

Nearly never though. It's just not the attitude an athlete should have. You know why the US do great at the Olympics? You know why Holland, even though they're a small country, often have a great football team? Because they are countries where the people believe you can win. You have to put the bar high. The Irish put the bar as low as possible. I will not admire that attitude.
