Except they're not disappointed. They went there to get drunk. Which is fine, but I don't understand why everyone feels this compelling need to point out that "although their team lost, they are still great fans".

I think it's because with your Italian upbringing and growing up with Serie A all around you, you're used to a higher standard of fandom/football.
But what about those who aren't as like as you? The San Marino's and Lichtenstein's of the world? Just because they come from tiny countries doesn't make them bad fans. Just because they find joy and pride where tight wads like yourself find anger and pinched rage doesn't make them any less than you.
If the Irish want to be proud of their loser team simply for making it to the Euros for the first time in 30 years, they can. If you don't like it, go have an angry cry.
