A slow and extremely bad match of Italy as expected. They always start tournaments like this.
But i most say Cannavaro was just fantastic, what a defender!!, Buffon was also good and proves he still is the best keeper.

I am sick and tired of the way our national team plays.

I have never seen Italy ever dominate possession in a game. I don't even ask for 60% possession but at least 45% would be nice - not 37% as it was in the first half.

I was getting soooo annoyed. 80% of the time Panucci got the ball, he blasted it in downfield trying to find Vieri!

If you control the ball, the other team cannot score and you have more of a chance to score. I know we don't have a world class midfield, but on paper its not THAT bad. I think it comes down to the way we insist on playing tactically.

You cannot say that it is a characteristic of Serie A either because Juve, Milan and Roma usually operate with respectible possession in European competition.

I feel like we play "kick and run". What is the point of having Totti and Del Piero in the team if you play like this? If you want to play like this, why don't you play with 2 centre forwards so that Panucci can aim for 2 strikers!

Also, there is no point in having 2 defensive midfielders like Zanetti and Perrotta. Sure, they can win the ball.....but they don't know what to do with it when they get it.....they only think about passing it to Totti at which time he is being marked by 1 or 2 defenders.

Our play is so predictable and unorganized. There is no impression of team work - just a bunch of highly paid primmaodonnas trying to put on their own individual show. Too many times I saw our players in toght clusters compared to the Danes who were spread out and much more likely to find space.

For the next match, I think we need Pirlo - i.e someone who can control the ball deep in midfield - Totti did that in the 2nd half and we played better but of course it meant that our attack sacrificed because he is playing too deep.

We should do this:

In the meantime, it might be a good idea for Trap not tell the world what he is going to do before the game.....I suspect that Denmark played us like a fool.

Although Camo didn't have the greatest game, he was one of the few players who actually tried to play football. Zambro and the defence had a good game but thats just about it.

I CANNOT REMEMBER WHEN I HAVE ACTUALLY ENJOYED WATCHING THE AZZURI IN A CUP COMPETITION! DO YOU?

One other thing is that the Italians barely moved around the pitch. When the passes were coming upwards, they were blocked time and time again by Danish players who patrolled the midfield. The Danish played a fantastic game last night, at least when it comes to moving and syncing with each other.

I agree Catenaccio, and i dont think 4-2-3-1 is the right formation as long as the statue Vieri is alone on the top. But Camoranesi was good i think, at least he tried.

watched the game in full so here are my ratings:

Gigi : 7...good game with decent save, even though he was extravagent with some of his punches.

Pannucci:5 average, passing was woefull , but appear to hanld jorgenson decently

Nesta and canna:7, good games by both, but a littly edgy with some clearances.

Zambo: 8.....class in the game, got forward and also tracked back and handled rammedhal well

Perrota:6 decent game, gave energy to midfield, however passing was lacking which imo made it hard for the big four to play upfront.

Zanneti: 4, imo he was awfull, passing was shocking and didnt look disicplined in his role, didnt really allow the four to play, as he was the main midfield destroyer, he got battered by poulsen, game imo improved when reno came on.

Camo:6, worked reallt really hard, chased every ball, but his dribbling was poor, and passing lacked any realll conviction. I notice he prefer to driblle in field rather than out wide, something he should not have done. But for the miles he ran i give him a 6

Dp: 6, nice backhell, couple of good shots, looked a half decent threat, but in general he looked very slow and slugish and found it hard to look after the wing on his own.

Totti: 6/7...i expected a lot more from this man, a few good trick and shot, but imo played similar to dp , in that he was finding hard in the field, getting rougheld easily, and was quite greedy on occassions, but he did start to link up later on which saves him.

Bobo:7: poor bobo, he tried to fight the line, but was on a loosing battle as he had three men to deal with. Good header and was a physical presence for denmark, , but he simply didnt have any real service.

Cassano and fiore: didnt really do anything more so i dont really want to give them a real rating (bar cassano's crazyt backward crossfield pass, when bobo was unmarked in the box??!! )

Battuso: worked harder and more effective than zannetti, i hoope he dispolaces him.

Overall, they lost the midfield battle which made it hard fo the big four to start to link up, so in the next game that central midfield need to get a grip on the game and provide decent amunition to the big four.

I found him to be the worst player along with Panucci and Del Piero.

He tried to make some super passes, and not some nice simple ones and not even one worked.

He must have made the most mistakes of all team. His role is very important in the team, he is at a position where he organizes the game in a huge degree, so he has to improve.

Buffon : 8
Very confident, very safe. Saved everything and only dropped one shot which lead to a corner. Had he been more pressed, it would have been a 9 or 10.

Panucci : 5
Very unproductive and wasted a lot of balls. Reasonably secure defensively but the Danes had him stupified with all their movement off the ball. Not entirely his fault that. Horrible ball distribution.

Canna : 9
Fantastic, he was awesome last night. Maybe a few mistakes here and there but nothing in comparison to how bravely and valiantly he fought. The captain thing really got the best out of him. Nesta was quite modest in comparison. Man of the match.

Nesta : 7
A quiet game compared to Canna, nothing really good or bad.

Zambrotta : 6
Solid defensively but his offensive game was just about nonexistent. We all love this guy but last night he wasn't much better than the rest of them.

Zanetti : 4
Very poor, didn't do his job properly closing down the Danish midfielders and wasted just about every ball near him.

Perrotta : 5
A bit better but basically the same. I thought he won more balls but that's the only difference.

Camo : 6.5
Somewhat positive in all of this, I think he tried the most of the midfielders. Hard to call him creative but at least he got involved.

Totti : 4
Would have been on par with Perrotta if it wasn't for the vicious tackle from the dumbass that should have got him sent off. No ball skill, no passing, no creativity. He was useless but to his credit his service was even worse.

Del Piero : 4.5
Completely anonymous, absent from the play. He was nothing special last night, missed passes, lost the ball, very very poor. Everyone can miss that shot he had, it's not about that but he not involved in the game at all. I'm tempted to give him no grade at all on that account.

Vieri : 6.5
With 3 offensive midfielders and the Danes playing an open game like they did, you'd think you'd get some decent service up front. Not the case. Vieri is not sharp anymore, he used to save Italy in matches like this one but instead he missed all his chances.

Thats a easy tricked impression, as he said by himself he was given the task to cover Rommedahl, which is an very offensive and advanced wing, that made it difficult for Zambo to go on offensive runs. I the second half he was more offensive, because the Danish wing was tired.
He did a very good defensive job which was 100% necesarry.
