Ajax and Bayern too.Bayern might come back strong next season,but Ajax have died as a European Power.The competition,from a purely neutral perspective,needs these teams back.Beating Madrid back in 2003 for example,was infinitley more satisfying them beating them in 2005.Milan will take a little time in coming back,but i really dont know what to make of Madrid.2 league titles in a row,yet they cant do shit in the CL.They probably need those huge names in their team again.A Madrid team just isnt a Madrid team without these big names.Nistelroy,Robben etc..all are great players.But it doesnt come to par with the likes of Figo,Zidane,Raul etc.

Well Ajax was a power, but not much of a tool to weed out the trash. Bayern was, and in that sense they were useful, but they do represent German football, and we just can't have that.

I think Madrid is good on names, they do have a ridiculous amount of stars. Not of Zidane proportions, but then there is no Zidane around anymore. But they've become a league team, the old RM didn't necessarily win the league but they ruled Europe with an iron fist. It's not the same and it's very rarely anyone has both. I saw them this year. When they were 20 minutes from elimination they had nothing, and I mean NOTHING to respond with. It was pathetic. Unlucky is one thing, but outplayed by Roma (another crappy CL team) is a sure sign that you deserve nothing out of the tournament.

To me the biggest tragedy in all this is that Lyon had the chance to establish themselves as the first and only French powerhouse (like Bayern if you will) and they almost did, but they didn't.

he may not have the same skill set, but im that doesn't make him any less of a player to rival the likes of Figo and Raul. His goal tally speaks for itself.

IF we manage to pass the qualifying round, the bad news is that we might be seeded in the third pot for the groups (except if one of: Liverpool, Barça, Arsenal or Werder fail to qualify). yep... two years without european football doesn't help....
We could thus end up in a group with ManUtd, Bayern and Fenerbahce.... nightmare.
