There is an important difference between exaggerating contact and diving.
Is there??

They're different forms of cheating that all players engage in. Its nice to think our favorite players dont cheat, but when you really look at it, they're all human, and have cheated in some form or shape.

Don't get me wrong, i'm completely against diving, like you are. That was not my point.

My point was, that we shouldn't make angels out of players, they've all dived or :gsol: exaggerated contact :gsol: before.

Exaggerating contact is not cheating, it is just unsporting.

Diving is cheating.

Diving is cheating.

And that was decided by??

i think we should all follow the del piero mould in protesting against divers, as i showed a page or 2 back

Gerrard has protested against divers too. Doesn't mean he hasn't dived before. Same applies to Del Piero, as hard as it is for you to hear that.

I believe the rule says something about attempting to deceive the referee.

When a player dives, he is trying to deceive the ref.

When a player exaggerates contact, he is trying to ensure the referee is aware that contact was made.

Well considering that contact doesn't denote a foul. Exaggeration of contact could also be seen as deception of the referee.

I'm not saying you should get a penalty.

I'm just saying that I wouldn't consider that diving, in most cases.
Well considering most cases of diving stem from mild contact made by a defender, I think you may have to consider such a move diving. Otherwise, many of football's champion divers would merely be exaggerators.

To me, if there is contact made, the player is entitled to go down.
But that's the definition of diving!

When you say "entitled to go down" then you are saying that it's a choice. If you get knocked over or out of a balance, that's not an "entitlement" to go down, it's an inevitability.
