Oscar is easily the best, most talented player Chelski has signed and even will sign this summer but could well turn out to be their worst transfer. He is a pure CAM - the behind-2-strikers type of player - and Chelski seem to be aiming at using a front 3 formation, otherwise the 40-mil Hazard transfer and the interest they showed and are showing in Hulk would make little sense.

Oscar can hardly replace Lampard as the deep lying mid yet he is not that well suited for a role on the wings in a 4-3-3 as he is primarily a playmaker, a reader of the game and not a goalscorer ... Mata and Hazard are better suited for that role and Chelsea would have been better off spending 27 mil on say Lavezzi or just use the money to invest in Hulk as opposed to dish out 30+ mil on Oscar, imo ... one of Marin and De Bruyin would have been perfectly suited to back up Hazard, Mata and Lavezzi/Hulk.

Would be interesting to see how Chelsea intend to use Oscar but my feeling is this transfer, especially for such high amount for a still pretty unproven player, is the result of Chelski and Roman falling a bit too deep in their free-spending mood from years back as opposed a well-planed move on the market.

Di Matteo actually prefers to field a 4-2-3-1 formation, don't think we'll be going back to 4-3-3.

Mikel Lampard

Ramires/Marin Mata/Oscar/Hazard. Hazard/Mata

Oh and the fee is €25m, not pounds. So about £19,5m.

not sure ramires works there and the formation with him, Lamps, Mikel simultaneously on the field is more of a 4-3-3 with ramires making runs from deep as opposed a Bayern-like, proper 4-2-3-1 with Robben and Ribery on the wings.
Which still suggests a Lavezzi-type player would have been a better match for them, considering Hazard had already been bought (as well as Marin and De Bruyin for back up).

Di Matteo could play behind Torres something like Mata - Oscar - Hazard (from left to right and backed up by Lamps and Mikel) but that could make for a rather unbalanced mid for his preferences (guy is Italian after all :p) with Ramires out of the picture. A similar concern lead to the benching of Muller at Bayern as the team was more balanced with Kroos slotted between Schweini and Gustavo and the front 3.

all in all, buying both Hazard and Oscar was big time over-kill, imo, still leaving the team in need of a player better-suited to 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 ... Time will tell, though.

P.S. it could be 25 mil euros but I honestly doubt Internacional would have missed out on milking Chelsea in the free-spending mood they are and that sounds a bit too low, tbh - 32 mil euros is more like it. Also the press is reporting it in BPs ... could be the usual lost-in-translation situation when it comes to currency but I am having my doubts on that.
