I don't like that logic. It would mean that i'm not Libyan. :disagree:

So because my country didn't(doesn't) have a good enough standard of living for my parents, i have no right to call myself Libyan?

All my cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents live there, i go there every summer. I speak Arabic in a Libyan dialect, my Mother cooks Libyan food. My great grandparents(and some of my parents uncles) fought the Italian occupation. But all that means nothing according to your logic, as i've never lived there, so i can't call myself Libyan.
What you described there is Acquafresca give or take, although he's probably more half and half. At least from what I know about him.

Now try to reason with a guy who says you should play for, I dunno, Morocco. Because your name is Moroccan. Even if you've never been there. And you don't speak the language. And you have no interest in Morocco. Even if your name were Moroccan, so what? Should you give up your Libyan ties just because of that?

I'm not familiar with Acquafresca's story.

Play for Morocco because my name sounds Moroccan? No of course not. What relevance does that have to our discussion though?

I know they did. Thats why i said he chose France over Poland. He's perfectly within his rights to consider himself French of course, but the same can be said if he considered himself Polish.
I think we have our wires crossed. Somehow you got the idea that I was saying you can't be Libyan or something, which is a really weird thing for me to imply. What I said was it doesn't look like Koscielny frankly has any ties to Poland, therefore why should he choose Poland (which according to you he "should"). Even if he's the kid of immigrants there's tons of immigrant kids who don't take the same nationality as the parents (Zidane is the easiest example).

But you obviously feel Libyan so your case is completely different.

According to me, if he thought of himself as Polish, nobody should say he isn't Polish because he hasn't lived there or wasn't born there(which is what i thought you were saying)

Edit:

Ah ok. We're in agreement then. Because apparently according to Burke, i am not Libyan because i never lived there. I thought you were following a similar logic

Benfica and Chelsea have come to an agreement over the price of Brazilian midfielder Ramires.

The two clubs have been in negotiations for days over the player, but have now agreed a fee of €22 million (£18.2 million), subject to contract negotiations and the completion of further medical tests.

The deal was announced through a statement on the website of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission.

It read: ''Benfica, in compliance with Article 248, of the Portuguese Securities Market Commission, hereby inform that they have reached a agreement in principle with Chelsea FC for the transfer, on a permanent basis, of the sporting and economic rights of the professional footballer Ramires Santos do Nascimento for the value of 22 million euros.

''They also inform that the said transfer agreement will be formalised once the athlete completes the medical examinations which he will undergo, with the consent of Benfica, and it will be concluded with the signing of a contract of employment between the aforementioned athlete and Chelsea FC.''
So it's practically a done deal.

I think the choice should be up to the individual, unless it's obviously preposterous like the guy doesn't even speak the language.

Exactly :agree:

Though half the Algerian squad doesn't speak Arabic, and 95% of the Moroccan squad doesn't speak Arabic too. :D
