while i do agree with what you seyd about attacking players, i must say that a world class defender can still do a lot.

look at Cannavaro next to Materazzi/Barzagli and Grosso at world cup 2006.

but you are generally correct.

For starters, Canna was playing next to Grosso who was great, Materazzi who had a brilliant tournament, and Zambrotta who was one of the best fullbacks around at that time.

A world class defender can do a lot, of course, and you always need a solid defense to win trophies, but my point was, attacking players win you games.
