You giving up on Masch?

You desperately need a left back. I don't understand why you guys are willing to sell Insua?
1) Yeah, he's made it apparent he doesn't want to remain in the squad. He made it apparent he wanted to leave last year.

2) I don't know either. Insua is really good getting forward (one of our top assist men last year). It's just a shame he can't defend and is slow.

Is Riera staying? i would have sold him and kept benayoun in that case.

Also, i'm under the impression that Agger is not very good as a lb although i didn't saw liverpool play last season (bar the games against chelsea, fiorentina and atletico).

tbh i don't find that lineup something to be excited as of now, pool's situation reminds me of Juve, sadly.
I think Riera will probably be sold, but I designated that the squad I listed was with players we currently have.

Agger is actually fine at left back, though he's better at cb.

They're also very weak on some spots though, Torres could be huge next season if he stays fit but that's a big if.

Is Gerrard staying?

also, losing mascherano would be huge as lucas is not even close.
Gerrard is staying. No one will pay 50 million for him and it would be stupid for the owners to unload the club's top assets as they are trying to quickly sell it.

Mascherano is the most likely sale as he isn't all that important in the grand scheme of things.

Lucas however is fine. He's not spectacular, but I think he's a different player in the 4-4-2.

Apparently. I like Crouchie.

You see thats the problem, will the right offer even come along? Real Madrid don't need another striker, Inter Milan don't need one either, Liverpool won't sell to United and Torres won't go to City.

Only two teams left that can afford him, Chelsea, i'm not so sure if Liverpool will be willing to sell to a rival, but Chelsea need a striker and i'm sure they'll try to go for him. Barcelona is an option, if they don;t get Cesc, they might opt to play Villa on the left hand side of a 3 man attack and buy Torres and play him as the center forward.
I don't think we'll sell Torres unless he demands a transfer. As I said before keeping our major assets is going to get the club sold faster than letting them go. There aren't really any teams he would go to that can afford him, the only team I can see willing to pay 70+ for his services is City.

But if you have a poor defense, the goalkeeper could be rendered useless.

See Real Madrid for example, their defensive record used to be terrible despite having a world class keeper.

If you have a poor midfield, your striker could be rendered useless.
Liverpool have an unimaginative uncreative midfield, but Torres seems to be doing fine nonetheless.

Plus, even if he doesn't perform well, he can conjure moments of brilliance that could win his team games every now and then.

Attacking players can perform moments of individual brilliance that can win you games. If you have a world class defender surrounded by 3 mediocre ones, he won't make a difference on his own.

while i do agree with what you seyd about attacking players, i must say that a world class defender can still do a lot.

look at Cannavaro next to Materazzi/Barzagli and Grosso at world cup 2006.

but you are generally correct.

Liverpool are fucked next season.
Juventus are too, I fear.

Grosso was one of the best players in the world for that month.

He looked great, becau because Cannavaro was immense defensively allowing him to run down that left flank. Canna was covering for himself, Grosso, Zambrotta and Materazzi.
