Weird how the ACL often takes the brunt of this kind of trauma, I suppose it is because it has less strain tolerance than the surrounding ligaments.

Yeah that seems to be the case. I did have some damage on the meniscus also but it heals a lot faster than the ACL which actually doesn't heal at all it just needs to be replaced if there is damage.
