Mourinho.

He gets it. He understands that winning doesn't need to be pretty, it doesn't need to have flair, it doesn't need to be well-received. It's winning, no matter what appearance it takes.

A little aside for this thread, I was just reading that the last time Liverpool conceded 5 goals in a league game was Coventry 5-1 Liverpool in 1992. I remember this game distinctly even though I was only 9 years old because on the way back home my dad was absolutely buzzing that we had smashed Liverpool, they were a massive club at the time off the back of all their European success. He also absolutely hated them.

Liverpool themselves were in-between eras at the time. The old 80s stars had mostly retired with only a few left hanging around, they had the likes of David James, Robbie Fowler, Steve McMananananananaman, Rob Jones and Jamie Redknapp coming through the youth system.

There is actually a video of the game

Dat grain. Jesus, there was some real crap playing in those early PL days. Micky Quinn :lol2: What a legend. I used to see him coming out of the bookies on the way home from school. He's a scouser as well, so he probably enjoyed that game.

I remember that blonde haired lad Lee Hurst who won the early Coventry penalty was a really good young player and was being talked about for an England future, but he got an injury which ended his career early on. In those days you couldn't come back from them like you can now.

It's becoming more and more incredible what players bounce back from. I remember when Del Piero ruptured his ACL it was rumoured his career was over. And quite frankly it did take him at least two years to regain full fitness and I'm not sure if he ever had full confidence in that knee again.

Yep, Hurst's was a serious knee injury as well. I think he stayed pro for 2-3 more years and played the odd game but basically had to retire. Now a player can at least compete on a physical level after about a year, although the success is mixed.

Fabio Borini (£10.5m), Joe Allen (£15m), Adam Lallana (£25m), Lazar Markovic (£20m) Dejan Lovren (£20m), Mamadou Sakho (£18m), Mario Balotelli (£16m), Iago Aspas (£7.2m) and Rickie Lambert (£4m)

Liverpool  And people had the nerve to complain about our absolutely amazing transfer work over the years...just look at those names there and the amounts spent on them, that is shocking.

£211m spent, only one absolute success: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/alan-shearer-brendan-rodgers-spent-5763394

According to Alan Shearer. Coutinho being the only success.

I'd argue that you need to give a lot more room to Markovic, Lallana, Moreno and Can, by virtue of their talent and age. You can't rubbish those players so early on. Pretty grim reading anyway, if you are a Liverpool fan. The point being whether they will trust this guy to spend another load of their money, in a vital time for the club.

Markovic and Can in particular have already shown that they can reach a very high level. But that kind of money for that kind of result is just ridiculous.

Yeah I'm not really against Can/Markovic/Lallana that much either, as they're all young and clearly better than what they've shown so far...but most of the names on that list are horrendous. The "transfer committee" at Liverpool are geniuses, keep up the good work lads.

The transfer committee is retarded. Nothing like the manager coming out and saying "We absolutely have no interest in Balotelli". The next day "Hey guys, guess we bought Balotelli".

As for Brendan, in retrospect I wonder how things would have turned out if we had force him to work under an experience DOF like LVG as was the original plan. The guy has some skills in player development and man management but is way too naive with way too much ego (refusal to sign a defensive coach, players constantly out of position, Lallan the lone forward against Stoke, it goes on) for a guy twice sacked by Championship clubs. I think that right now the club is probably the 5th best in the league on paper and when firing on all cylinders, so finishing 6th is not surprising. It is however a disappointment.

Our goal should be consistently finishing in the top four and to do that I believe we need a more experienced manager, one with some star power to attract those top players we've been missing out on and develop the young talent that we've collected over the last few years.

Also, scrap the fucking transfer committee.
