How do you know Shearer would struggle abroad? He was a top striker, there's no doubting that.

I mean, most of us agree English players are over glorified and definitely overrated by the media and fans in England, but let's not counter that by underrating the few good players they produce :p

Jacky

Probably one of the few positive things he did in an otherwise mediocre season.
how many english centre forwards do you know did well abroad? :p

Lol, great signing. Also another stark difference in that Article is Pool with Suarez scored 50% more goals then they did without him...
I still can't believe how they managed to waste all that money from selling him.

I mean Tottenham with the Bale money at least bought themselves a bunch of quite talented individuals - they still kinda failed to really build a team out of them and some flopped, but in principle they weren't doing too bad considering they can't really pull top stars.

But Liverpool

ludicrous statement saying shearer would have struggled abroad please atleast try and curb your anti englishness when looking at a player.

what case would you have for saying prime rio ferdinand john terry ashley cole beckham carrick gerrard lampard scholes rooney owen would have struggled abroad? seriously i'd be interested to know considering none of them struggled at champions league level.

Cole cant even make it into the starting line up in the so called 'slow' pace of italian football. Owen struggled in madrid and he was overrated to begin with anyways. where were those players you mentioned at international tournaments??? Nice try there they only look good in europe thanks to being boosted by foreign influences

You probably have a point about some of them, bit Owen? :D Like you do know his biography, right?

Toon fans finding their way here to defend Sir Alan? :D I've seen it all.

He was obviously a top striker, and England have obviously had plenty of good individuals over the years, but I really do wonder what a lot of these players would have done in Serie A around the turn of the century. Would have been interesting to see. I think the midfielders in particular would have done very well.

One thing on Shearer - he wouldn't have had the protection he had back in the PL. I saw that guy live many times and he was a horrible, dirty striker who the refs let get away with murder.
