They are really trusting him with the whole "I always started slowly at my new clubs" line. But looking at the quality of players they have and will continue to bring in (defenders, finally) then they can't do anything but improve. That's not a wand waved by a wizard, it's quality and money that Moyes wasn't afforded.

Lots of enthusiasm and bravery, is very direct and likes to take his man on. That offers us something different in attack, but to be honest he still has a lot of work to do with his end product. Most of the time he makes some good moves only to reach the final third and fuck it up. Obviously he's still young and could improve his end product. But until he does, he's all flash and little substance to be honest.

The problem with Moyes is he failed too hard, I mean sure he wasn't afforded the same resources that LVG is being given, so comparing the two is pointless really. But with the resources Moyes had, whether personnel or financial, he should have made the top four IMO, or at the very least should have been close. Going from winning the league to 7th place is just too much failure. He was rightfully sacked IMO, this coming from someone who believes one season isn't usually enough to judge a manager coming into a new team.

It's true that the job was too big for him too soon, but then why appoint him in the first place? Fergie has a lot to answer for in how instrumental he was in his appointment, and both he and Woodward with the garbage that was left over. The team needed players at the start of Fergie's final season and Fergie knew it. By the next summer there were holes everywhere. Now Fergie has basically shat on Moyes saying that the job was too big for him.
Just so happened that Moyes got it wrong trying to get United playing like an Everton Max, which was never going to work. Fellaini flopping just compounded matters. Mata was an example of the quality they needed, but he came too little too late. It's almost like they knew there would be a settling in period, but they thought they could keep their CL spot and the money ticking over. It would be very interesting to see United rattling around 6th-9th around Feb-Mar. But they'll most likely sign a strong DC in January and they have enough quality to beat most teams at home.
