If these are the levels you're talking about (2014-2016), then sign him up.

May not be at his absolute best, but I'd take this guy for free any day, and have him as an option ahead of Hernanes and Sturaro.
Good enough for Germany squad inclusion in Euros even after suffering a long injury. Good enough for Germany in the world cup. Good enough for Pep' all-passing Bayern in most BL and CL matches. People even forget how crowded and full of quality players that early Pep midfield was and how important it is for Pep to be a player that can pass the ball. The guy kicks out Goal Keepers who cant pass let alone CMs. What happened at Manu (caused by a long injury and in a team where nobody performed decently) doesnt strike me as enough evidence to be so confident that he is absolutely shit and not even worth bringing as a freebie.

If we get just him I'll be satisfied. If we get him and another CM that can be a long term world class solution then I'll be very happy.

If we bring back Cuadrado that leaves us with 26 players. If we sell Zaza and Hernanes we only have room for 1 more player. If we get Bastian for free we wouldn't get another CM. That would be the CM.

selling? we can't even give them away if we tried, and we all know Marotta is king at giving players away
Yep. Holds the record for the highest transfer in history.

Given right to ManU on a silver platter

To me, this is just a bad idea. I don't know. I would not want to use up the one available roster spot after all is said and done on him.
John Square or Schweiny?

I'm pretty sure the Schweinsteiger rumours were made up by some person on twitter. Gianluca Di Marzio denied it. I'm not saying that the rumours are definitely wrong, but I don't understand why people are so worried. I think Ruben Neves would be a good signing, but I don't know if we're interested in him. Right now it seems we want to sign Matuidi, but then again you can't even tell if that's true or not. What do you guys think of Matuidi?

Bastian. I'd rather miss out on john square than start without a vice-marchisio (other than hernanes). So Vice-marchisio (Bastian or other quality guy)> RWB.

Pjanic can replace Marchisio when needed

Wrong.
He just didn't fit the crazy flipper style of football by Schmidt which requires running fast(at any cost) instead of actually playing football.
Calhanoglu also doesn't fit in there and could be had for the right price.

Kramer, on the other hand, is not available as he signed with Gladbach back in June.

BTW: You guys are going for Schweinsteiger?
The guy wasn't able to go a full season for five years, before he signed with United, and got inured there once again.
He's lost at least one step and can't be relied on for more than about 50% of the games.
Whats the right price for Hakan? Hope he is the player from BL we are after

Schweini is finished.

Some of you make it sound like he's just had 1 bad season, which isn't the case.
His last 2 years for Bayern were also pretty bad.

The Schweini you saw for ManUTD is the same Schweini you will see until he retires.

But...but...Pirlo - don't, he isn't a Pirlo. Pirlo never relied on his Physicality and he was able to play the same quality passes and long balls he's always played.

What's left if you take away Schweini's physicality? Well, just watch him play.

Nah. He just wasn't good enough. Nice to see he's good enough for Gladbach though.
Pretty much this. A lot of bayern fans were happy he left

Overall (prices excluded), if we close this mercato with Matuidi and Cuadrado (while letting go of Zaza and Hernanes), I will be quite satisfied.

Defence:

OUT: Caceres
IN: Alves, Benatia

Midfield:

OUT: Pogba, Padoin, Pereyra, Hernanes,
IN: Pjanic, Matuidi, Mandragora, Marrone (he stays?)

Forwards:

OUT: Morata, Zaza
IN: Higuain, Pjaca

Squad:

GKs: Buffon, Neto, Audero
DEF: ALVES, Lichsteiner, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, BENATIA, Rugani, Evra, Sandro
MID: Khedira, Marchisio, PJANIC, MATUIDI, Asamoah, Lemina, Sturaro, MANDRAGORA
FWD: Dybala, PJACA, Cuadrado, HIGUAIN, Mandzukic

Squad of 25. Under 21s are Audero, Mandragora, and Pjaca (FIGC rules). Senior players are therefore 22. Marchisio and Rugani (FIGC) classified as home grown. The squad is the right number for Serie A. However, I am not sure whether UEFA has different rules concerning Rugani and Pjaca which may mean 1 or 2 players may need to be cut from the champions league list.

OVERALL, Defence and Attack are an UPGRADE especially with Higuain. Midfield is a moderate downgrade after losing Pogba but Pjanic was probably second best mid in Serie A last year and Matuidi and a fully fit Asamoah should help make the loss bearable.

FYI 72mil is not a transfer record. No top team would have played the Pogba card as poorly as Marotta did. He is by far is the softest top team manager I can think of, the jellyfish of managers. He gets fucked with left and right and spends the second summer in a row still looking for a starting XI player a week before mercato ends.

I can see where you are coming from. However, its a discipline or philosophy he has which makes sure that everyone in the squad wants to be there. I guess the qualitative payoff is that you get good morale within the squad.

The other thing we will never know is whether the management also felt that Pogba was a good changing room presence or not. You never know, he may have been a total douche.
