Obviously we had to offer higher salary as other big clubs such as psg and Bayern Munich were interested in him
Apparently PSG offered more money so that renders your argument null and void Mister.

Wrong. Can is a top level player. He is young still, but he has everything it takes to become a superstar player. You seriously underrate the world cup champions if you think one simply enters that team. I expect many of our current players leaving in the coming months, and I expect our overall wages trimmed for next season - even if we make lucrative Can and Martial contracts.
Wrong! You think he is a top level player; that doesn't necessarily make him one. Gomes plays for Portugal, and Matuidi plays for France; two top tier national teams. Does that make them top level players? They're both solid and dependable professionals, but definitely not superstars or world class.

I hope you're wrong about many of our players leaving, unless you mean fringe players and "The Accidental Footballer." In that scenario, I wholeheartedly agree.

I thought the balance we have created has been poor and gotten us to this point? :D

Kidding...question for you...If we want to keep pace with the bigger clubs (and potentially keep our best players or at least entice them to stay), then doesn't it make sense to open up our wage budget more? Doesn't it look better to top players we want that we aren't on some strict pay scale?
We definitely need to open up our wage budget more, but we also need to be wise. I'd offer someone like SMS 6 or 7 million because he has the potential to be great for us. As for Can, I think a salary of 4.5 or 5 is a fair reflection of his current level.

At least those two would be missed by their coaches should they pick up an inury before the world cup :D

I feel lots of you want darmian because of his half-italian heritage, not so much because of quality and injury history
What's his other half? :shifty:

Matuidi most definitely; I'm not sure about Gomes tho :p :D

I consider most of the players in top tier national teams quality players. Matuidi is a top player though. Ranking higher then "quality players in a top NT".

And I consider Can a top player as well.
Not a superstar player.

Superstars: Buffon, Chiellini, Dybala, Costa and Higuain..
Top players: Pjanic, Benatia, Alex Sandro, Matuidi, Mandzukic..
Quality players. That's the remaining players in our team.

I could miss out on someone, but that's just what comes to mind right now. Emre Can is a top player, and i hope and think he can become a superstar player at some point.
Do you consider SMS a superstar? Then what is Kroos and Modric? World class?

He has good potential, but you really just utter the words Emre Can and superstar potential?

Yes. I have seen him a lot for Liverpool. Just before his recent injury he started adding goals to his performances as well. That made him a top quality midfielder with potential superstar level. He's got both great physique and technical ability. High ceiling.

Here is something of what I call "extra":

I consider SMS a player with great potential, a very promising talent with a higher ceiling than Can; he can possibly become a world class player in the near future.

Modric and Kroos are definitely world class. Modric is arguably the best player in his position.

I don't consider Costa a superstar, and I sometimes have doubts about Higuain as well.

You're very generous with your quality players assessment tbh. Someone like "The Accidental Footballer" is a pseudo footballer parading as a professional; he's anything but quality.

Goals like these are mostly luck based anomalies. Doesn't go in 19 out of 20 times.
Exactly like Pogba's longshots?

I have'nt seen enough of SMS to know TBH. Not denying his ability and potential but I just don't watch Lazio at all.
Juventus is a top 4 team in the world. I might be generous on some but overall this team has to have a few superstars in it..

Even Liverpool offered him a higher wage packet maybe he believed in our project

Long shots near the box are easier than bicycle kicks, which are rare like long shots for 40+ yards.
I agree. We kinda expect Dybala and the likes to produce magical stuff, but we do not expect it from a defensive / central midfielder as such?
We're not talking Can abilities by looking at an overhead kick. We're talking about it because we already know how good he is at his job. The overhead kick is the extra. What we do not expect.

Point was a sample size of one doesn't mean anything. One bicycle kick doesn't mean that's extra that'll feature often or something the player should be valued on. If he had a knack for it (which no player does), that would've been different, but then again, every goal counts the same.
