Right or left, his positioning was awkward and he had no understanding of the game. Being on the right wing where he is a left winger has probably to do with his end product but he never got there to begin with, he lost the ball way earlier than even trying to do something.
"We'd surely expect him to put pressure but not spend time next to the defense." I've never seen him with that problem, actually spends large portions of the game in very good attacking positions.
Anyway, I'm getting quite sick of this talk of players with work rate. I don't know why it's approached with such negativity, top players work hard, it just so happens that we have that without the product which we would have had in the 90s.

I wouldn't blame the position he played in. It's not new to him. But I don't think he's strong enough mentally to come on in a game like this and perform. Might do better if he starts. But today, he was shite.

Yeah, that quote was meant for wingers like Robben. Sure, they can put pressure on the offensive half but they don't spend that much time next to the fullback in defense because that would harm their offensive game.
The danish commentator added that one of the reasons he hasn't been playing this season is because he had a knee injury. Stretched ligaments, can anyone confirm this?
Should not be rated on his performance today he came in under difficult circumstances when the pressure was high there where many games ealier in the season that we where winning comfortably that he should of been introduced into that way getting a better understanding of the game snd he wouldnt be as rusty. This on top f him playing out of position like seriously people wise up.

Please with the platitudes. Other players have played out of position even Vidal today and no one sucked like Elia beside the fact he's played there before
I still think it's absurd that he's being criticised so much. He needs a show of confidence from the coach. Just like the ones being shown to Vucinic and Borriello. He also needs playing time against Serie A teams rather than against fellow trainees. He's stayed positive so far, but a show of faith and confidence by Conte won't hurt him.

True, he certainly lacks it and Conte could do better in showing more confidence in him. But we don't know the full story, if he is showing the same stuff in training as on the pitch, it's hard to show confidence in him. And we didin't really have a lot of matches where we could just bring him on let him play, since most of our games were close games, differences in one goal only.
The borriello thing I can't understand at all. He shouldn't have been brought here he shouldn't have been given any time on the pitch, I hope he get shiped out of us asap.
