A government's main responsibility is its citizens. As a government you should be more concerned with your citizens getting employed than immigrants or foreigners. If there are laws to ensure that private companies also respect that and have a certain percentage of locals in their workforce, that is something i would agree with.
I wish people had that same mentality here.
Some probably do, but hide it out of fear of being called racist. Which is ridiculous.

Ok maybe i shouldn't have used the term "immigrant". "Foreigner" would be a better word to use.
Immigrant or not, as long as you're a citizen, you should have equal rights to other citizens of course.
and of course the more qualified should always get the job, what i mean is that if there are two candidates for the job who have similar qualifications, the local should get the job because he has more of a right to it, being in his country imo.

I agree with the Gov't having that responsibility. But the private sector should hire who they think is the best applicant.
In the construction industry here, there was a big uproar because a lot of the companies decided to use Chinese labour rather than local labour. Local labour is much more costly, and MUCH less efficient than the Chinese labour, so I can't blame them.

I mean citizen. Any citizen is a local. They use the word local here, more than citizen, maybe because its such a small country.
They are allowed to use all sorts of public services and obtain benefits without fear of their legal status being questioned and I've been called "racist" numerous times for not agreeing with policies like theses.
Yeah, fruit pickers is a huge issue and always will be. That's the main source of the "rights for undocumented workers" movement. It's really a shame because most of the growers are responsible for the workers being the in the US. Then you have the spill over into the other facets of industry such as construction, mechanics, and other things so that people think you have to protect the rights of all undocumented workers.
