Elano: Barcelona A "Dream" Club For Me

Shakhtar Donetsk's Brazilian midfielder seems set to leave the Ukrainian outfit sooner rather than later, with Barcelona still watching him closely. From Brazil's training camp in Venezuela, he admitted that a switch to Catalonia would be a "dream."

With Barcelona watching Elano Blumer closely as he takes part in this year's Copa America, the player himself has issued a "come and get me" plea squarely in the direction of the Nou Camp.

The player is unsettled in Ukraine, where he is under contract until 2009, and has repeatedly stressed his desire to move to one of the major European leagues.

He remarked in Sport, the Spanish daily, "I have already spoken with the [Shakhtar] president and coach and explained to them why I want to leave. I don't want to fight with them or criticise them."

While he took pains to point out his devotion to the Brazilian cause, he admitted joy at the possibility of a Barca switch. "Right now I am focused with the national team, but when I hear news like [Barcelona's interest], I cannot hide my excitement. It's a situation that gives me so much motivation," he beamed.

That said, he is not personally speaking to Barcelona. While ensconced with the Brazil squad, his representative, Jose Massih, is doing all the talking. Elano said, "The [Copa America] is a very short competition. I don't want my future to interfere with my performances here. Once it finishes is the time for us to decide what we're going to do."

Finally, he seemed unfazed by the possibility of fighting into the Barca first team. "Barca is a very attractive team for me, given its relationship with Brazil, its style of play, its extreme ambition to fight for all titles, and it would be a great pleasure to see my name in Barcelona. I would accept the challenge to play for a great team like Barca and fight my way into the team."

With the blaugrana monitoring the situation closely, Elano may well have the chance to live out his fantasies sooner rather than later. He said, "I hope these rumours can take shape, because, for me, to sign for Barcelona would be a great dream come true."

Elano seems to be a devotee of Morpheus. When linked to Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window, he declared that a switch to Madrid would be, again, a "dream." Whether Madrid or Barcelona offers the best environment for nocturnal visions remains to be seen.

elano and dudu? never seen them play except on FM
elano is not bad, but bare in mind he was playing for the best and only good team in the ukraine and for brazil he had quality around him, in my eyes hes a very unproven player for a club like man city which lacks that quality hes used to playing with, thats why i wasnt so keen on having him, but meh let man city have him, he was too much of a risk imo, we got almiron instead who i rate higher
