Well anyways, if you compare the way both players occupy the flank, it's safe to say Cuadrado is more defensive. He even laughed at that UEFA tweet suggesting he was an attacker.
If he shoulders the offensive responsibility when he's playing RM in a 4-4-2 then that is through no fault of his own. That just means he is the only player consistently open for the ball or regaining the ball himself, which is a big indictment on our strikers that we sacrifice defensive numbers for.
Costa is a 4-3-3 RW and Cuadrado is a 3-5-2 RWB in my opinion.
If Cuadrado plays 4-3-3 RW then you'll get less offensive production and more defensive contribution.

Cuads stats have been amazing the past many seasons. He has always been one of our bests if not the best. However he is somehow not so likeable and he has often been the scapegoat when things go wrong. I think what we can say is that most fans and people on this forum simply dont pay enough attention to individual players during a match, or else they do it too much, forgetting about the good things their non-favourite players do. Most dont care to check the stats and are completely biased in their expressions. Thats what we are dealing with, thats why it happens that people speaks out of their asses about lacking end-product from Cuadrado as one example, when he hilariously is actually our player with the highest end-product.
Also go and check Mandzukic's stats for the current and past season. He has been hailed, even for his defensive contribution and crazy workload, when he in fact has been our most lazy and least active player in all areas of the pitch.
