If people require the idea of heaven and hell, as a sort of bribe to be good people... Those are some terrible fucking people. :shifty:
Not, not really when you take into context something as simple as a lie is considered sinful. You have never lied?

Ok. I personally believe in the golden rule and being part of a society where I feel comfortable.
Nothing wrong with the Golden rule. Same things apply, do they not?

Would take me far too long to list everything but here are some of the ones that stand out:

-care for them as they age whether financially or physically
-forgive them for mistakes they have made and not hold it against them
-respecting them and thanking them for the tough job they had in raising me

There are many others. The Bible gives its reasons as to why this is important which I partially agree with depending on the context you comprehend when you read the reasons why.

And do you covet your neighbor's wife?

I've told lies. Well, more so omitting things than telling bold-faced lies. When it happens, I generally feel guilty about it, regardless.

Religious people tell lies too. They just ask their god for forgiveness, and "poof" the weight of their actions is magically lifted off their shoulders.

It isn't magically lifted off of your shoulders, you still have to answer for it. It's admitting the mistake and trying not to do it again that's the important part.

It says not to.

I think drooling over Nargi counts in that, Hust
I've never liked Nargi. Go through my posts there, I find her disgusting.

It's Marchisio's wife I like.

And liking is not wanting. :p

And she isn't my neighbor. :touched:

 It reminded me of the first time I confessed my sins to a priest (my first communion). Gawd, it felt exactly like you said, "poof" and I got all that weight off my shoulders :touched: The power of the human brain.

you said "why would i?"

why would anyone do anything that's contrary to the commandments?
People quite often do contrary to the commandments. Is it obvious to them or not is a question you need to ask them.

If someone never read or heard of the commandments, it can't be obvious now can it?
