I disagree. Basic, core ideas are not the same in all religions. They are the same in categories of religions, as an example christianity and islam can definitely be put in the same category. And yes, religion does tend to make people do good things. But it also makes them do bad things out of ignorance. When you add up everything, there are better ways of making people do good things. Religion is often able to make people happy and positive, because their life makes sense. But all in all, you'd have to admit it's pretty much based on the off chance that it's true. Again, there are more solid foundations to pick that can make you just as happy. I understand why religion exists and I think it's understandable people choose it to perform these functions. But it is nowhere near the best option.
