you can love god, doesn't necessarily mean he exists, does it? i can love my girlfriend and yet, she necessarily doesn't have to exist. i don't think anyone is questioning whether or not your or mv's emotions towards god are true, we're questioning the basis for it. i'd do the same if a dude i know fell in love with an invisible girlfriend.
Love is an abstract human emotion specific to an individual and not really open for investigation. So you gotta trust the individual expressing it, hoping that he is either being honest about his feelings, or that he's capable of properly assessing his feelings.
Human emotions cannot be compared to factual claims like alien abduction or the existence of a deity.
Since such a claim is pretty common and entirely plausible, I'll trust his claim. Unless I have legitimate doubts whether he was actually there and not in a movie theater or something.
