I'd love ribery and marks idea makes sense but unlikely. It would be dumb to get ribery and not reinforce other critical areas of our team such as the backline. If somehow the board could guarantee new and better signings for our defense then sure, let's splurge on ribery. Economically it makes more sense for a cheaper option when considering other areas that need strenghtened, but if mark is right that we could get some quality freebies than hell yeah, ribery it is!

60 minus the players sold so the number would be more around 35-40m depending who you sell.
I don't think it can go down to 35.

We don't have many players to sell...just Iaquinta would make us some profit but we'd buy Quag/Floccari so that money would vanish.

Out of that we can just get a couple of millions from Zebina and a few from co-ownership deals (we still don't know if they'd buy 'em).

So what? We are not capable of beating any top europe club for a signing now? Everytime we approach someone and there is another club asking about the same player, we already lost the battle!? So what is the first thing we should do if we try to think logically? That would be removing our BOD asap! We need to regain our status in europe and once again be atractive for wc players!
This is a very simplistic view.
You really think that we can't buy the expensive world class players because of our board?

Here's a question for you...... When was the last time any Italian team payed +25m eur for a football player?
As you know, today you can't possibly buy the best players for less than 25m (most of them cost +35m), so answer me when was the last time any Italian team payed more than 25m.

Now, if your research will be done correctly you will realize that the last time an Italian team payed more than 25m eur for a player was back in 2002 when Milan bought Nesta for 30m euro.

Are all the Italian boards as bad as ours or something else is happening with the Italian football? Something that has to do with TV rights deals maybe? (and these deals give +50% of football clubs' revenue).

It looks to me that the Italian teams don't have the money to compete with the English teams and with Barcelona and Real. They can't buy the world stars like the others can.
So, what's the solution? Well, they will certainly have to gain the popularity back. It's usually done by winning in Europe and buying world class players who will attract the football public. But without money you can't win much and you certainly can't buy the best players.
Then you must create the best players, right? You must find Kaka and Pato in Brazil, you must find Zidane in Bordaux, Messi in Argentina, you must give more chances to the youngsters "the next Totti" and "the next Del Piero" to play regularly for their clubs...and just as importantly, you must not sell them for huge bucks but you must keep them in the team.

Milan are the team that is working well on this field. Ironically, the same Milan that keeps buying old players.
Milan attracted attention with Ronaldinho and Beckham, they work well on the South American market (Kaka, Pato, Thiago Silva), they didn't sell Kaka. That's a good start. Even without winning anything, Milan are becomming more and more popular and it's bringing lots of money to the team.
The other Italians and the Italian federation must work more on marketing. They do have the language disadvantage with the English, but we've seen in the 1990's that even with that they were the most popular and most watched league in the world. They can do it again.
Oh, and some rich bastard who'll take over....Napoli or Genoa, could also help.

Not to mention the fact that Milan has these quality players now on the roster will help attracting other stars to the team OR younger future "prospects" who want to play nest to the likes of Ronaldinho or Beckham...

personally,if i am using my head-

i think we should be going for SIlva,he is a realistic target and the 10m saved on Ribery would help strengthen some of the other areas we abdly need to reinforce

however, my heart says Ribery, simply because he is a player that would get US ALL excited again, he would sell shirts by the bucket-load,would supply the forwards with crosses to get on the end of, he would link up play marvelously and he would cause terror in teh heart of opponents defenses

Ribery is the signing to show that Juve mean business once again

So Bordeaux will pay 15m for Gourcuff, who'll sign a contract with them.

He won't go for less than 25, a fee we could get Diego for. Same position, similar age. Who's better?
