And Tiago's swan lake ballet jumps.
u do get that andy & i were being sarcastic not destructive right?!

Tiago is a player i still really like. He is just over-criticised and under-rated on this forum. It is not the player's fault that the management brought him in to play in a system which was never goin to suit his strenghts.

This was (and if these current rumours are ture, it still is) our problem a problem we have at the upper level in terms of persons in charge of acquistions. Secco bought the wrong players for the system we were goin to play & now marotta appears to be in teh process of doing the oppoosite, brought in the wrong coach with the wrong system for the players we have/had.

In today's calcio there is no place for one dimensional old school coaches who are set in their ways and unwilling to adapt to their squads and to changes in the wya calcio is played. This has been a great over sight in my eyes. Not just because it worked on the small scale means wit will work on the big scale, the factors are different.

Also, IMO DN is a bit too old for my liking to start a new generation. We should have looked for a younger coach who (IF successful) can potentially stay for many years an ingrain a winning mentality through the entire club through stability. I cannot see DN providing any long term stability in terms of coaching at his age.

Knee jerk? Are you serious? Obviously you cannot blame last season solely on Diego as he doesn't take to the pitch alone. If was a collective choice from the top tier of management to the bottom. We tried to accomodate him as much as we could and it backfired BIG TIME. But i forgot how it is around here, if you say anything about Diego that isn't all peaches and cream then all of a sudden you're blaming all the worlds ill's on him. You're the one knee-jerking.

So according to you it was a good idea to change from a formation that was tried and true with the group of players we have to one that supposedly is Diego's favored formation. Because that's basically what you're saying.

If we wouldn't have bought Diego we wouldn't have been trying to play a 4-3-1-2. Simple as that. We should have just gone out and found a proper replacement for Nedved on the left wing. You can try to twist my words any way you'd like but I stand my my opinion unlike others around here who bow to 'senior' members pressure and agree blindly with everything they say.

We played 4-4-2 for two years in Serie A before that both times attaining VERY respectable positions. 3rd and 2nd respectively. All after we had just come back up from Serie B. Our squad was nothing special at that point. Yet we played a system that the players knew, we played to their strengths.

And we got results. Unlike what we did last year.

And yes I do believe that when we play the 4-4-2 we create more chances than when we played the 4-3-1-2. You see unlike the 4-3-1-2 we will be playing down the flanks. Unlike the 4-3-1-2 again we will be catering to our group of players strengths. Getting into wide positions and stretching the opponents play thus opening up and creating space.

I would go on but i have to get back to work. I'll be back later.
The straight 4-4-2 was NEVER anything special. That's a fucking illusion. It was lethargic under Capello and Ranieri, it didn't provide any creativity, and in reality it held us back going forward. With Capello we had the best squad in the world for the most part, yet failed to get far in Europe because we were lethargic. Under Ranieri we still had the same problems and it was moments of brilliance from our forwards that bailed us out jail. IT WAS NOT MORE CHANCES FROM THE WINGS.

We have been conditioned to play the straight 4-4-2 over years, so of course it will take time to become familiar with a new system. Trying a new system isn't bad at all, we did so under Lippi after using three at the back, and it worked. Mind you, it was the 4-3-1-2. It's just that last season we had an unexperienced manager along with a lot of crap players.

The straight 4-4-2 is the alcohol which we are addicted to, it's not the answer. We aren't going to drink ourselves sober using mediocre wingers and two center forwards. It will simply get worse. We can't seem to get off it, or hell, we can't even seem to be able to substitute it for another drink, it's gotten that bad.

You can have your opinion, but you just admitted to blaming Diego for the poor season. You also seem to be unable to connect the dots between several issues, yet you judge a new system with a poor manager and judge a new player on only one season. Or hell, basically half a season since Ciro didn't last.

So yes, that is the definition of knee-jerking it.
