With Champions League football looking likely, Juventus are planning their summer reinforcements and Werder Bremen’s Diego is top priority.

The Old Lady have made a smooth transition to Serie A after their spell in the Purgatory of Serie B and have an eight-point cushion in the Champions League qualification zone.

If the Bianconeri are to compete at the highest level next term, they will need to strengthen their squad and they are expected to make several high-profile swoops in pre-season.

Sporting director Alessio Secco met with Brazilian star Diego and his father yesterday and reports suggest that he is ready to offer Werder Bremen around £12m for his services.

The 22-year-old is one of the Bundesliga’s most sought-after talents and is under contract at the Weserstadion until 2011 and is valued at nearly £20m by the Germans.

However, it seems that Werder couldn’t prevent Diego leaving if he decides that he wants to continue his career in Serie A and may be willing to cash in their prized asset.

Reports last week suggested that Real Madrid had stolen a march in the race for his signature, but Juve are now believed to be on equal footing.

Meanwhile, the Cadetti champions continue to push for Palermo star Amauri and are strong favourites to lure the former Chievo man in the summer.

The prolific hitman has made no secret of his desire to leave Sicily for a bigger stage at the end of the campaign and Secco discussed terms with Rosanero sporting director Rino Foschi at Milan’s Hilton Hotel last weekend.

Palermo are asking for around £16m to relinquish their grip on Amauri, but Juve may offer a part-exchange deal involving Raffaele Palladino or Paolo De Ceglie.

I don't think 12M pounds would be enough for him, we should try to use Tiago in the deal, assuming we won't use him next year, that might help to convince Werder.

Secco met Diego (and his father) between the genoa and the napoli game in germany to talk about a possible transfer. His wage atm is 3,5 mio, juventus could go somewhere near 4 mio. Werder wants 30 mio, atm juve are bidding 20, but with a secure CL-Spot, they could raise the bid easily.

I usually believe the gazzetta, but i have my doubts here. should this be true, then it's a step forward i'd say.


The article goes on with Dossena being very near to Juve (nice), and amauri also being in discussion. TBH i don't want amauri... he surely has some skill, but come on, he's 28 and except for this season he has been quite anonymous. I watched the palermo game against inter, and he didn't do ANYTHING (i know it was difficult for him as a unique striker, but still... a so-called 'world-class' player should at least be able to create one decent attack, even against inter)

Well it all depends on whether or not we want to build our squad around him. Diego is a player whom you buy in order to change the squad. If we want to take that step, we take a risk, with players maybe not adatping well to the new system, maybe diego cannot recall performances he showed in germany etc. It's definately a risk, and we have to evaluate if we want to do that. Should we decide to do that, i think the numers above are ok. let's say 25 mio to get him are fine to me. Look at what EPL-teams are paying for other (far less impressive) players. It's just the price to pay if you have bidders from EPL and la liga. is wage is ok too... i mean, he's 23! that's 2 years younger than kaka, and i'd say that given time, diego can become just as impressive in serie-a as kaka is. (considering kaka earns 12 mio, it's ok)
I'm pretty sure our board knows that this investment could be risky, but it's a one-time-chance.

TBH, i think that diego won't immediately impress us like he does in bundesliga. It's actually pretty obvious, stronger defenders, other system, new coach... BUT, it's undenyable that that boy's got technique, and that he CAN adapt. (he moved from portuguese league to the bundesliga, which is a step upwards, and made it)
I think that diego won't keep repeating his performances in real. I don't know how, it's just a feeling maybe, but i think that he'll fail in real, simply because they won't build everything around him... It may be that i don't like real too much, but i can't see him shine there

Guti signed a new contract, Gago plays, Diarra plays, they have Sneijder, they have Robben, they have Robinho, they have Drenthe, they have Higuain and I am probably forgetting others.
At Juve, he is 95% certain of playing time, and if we keep this up, he will also play in cl, only problem I see rising is that we won't be able to match Real's bid if they make one, but we just need to be faster then them.
I can see him joining us if Werder accepts our bid (assuming we will make one that is high enough for them).

well i'm not so sure about that. Real is willing to pay a lot, that's sure. But considering that they don't "desperately" need a trequartista (i mean look at their squad, they don't really need diego), they won't pay that much more than he's worth. So even if it may be hard but i think we could compete up to a certain level with real. Maybe our fiat-riends are willing to make a donation, now that the cinquecento is selling so well And of course, diego himself says these things to push himself out of transfer-talks, but i'm pretty sure if albinoleffe came and made a 40-mio bid for diego, he would do something against it He has an italian passport, he has ancestors in piemonte...... it's not that impossible

I watched the game as well and you couldn't be more right. Worldclass strikers should have the ability to 'break it open'.

Ranieri excepted 3 times lower wages to join Juve instead of Manchester City.

i hope he comes to juve but since juve dont like brazilian players and cause he is expensive i thought his chances of coming to juve is small.
