Juventus hunt pair of Bundesliga stars

BERLIN (AFP) - A pair of the Bundesliga's brightest stars - Werder Bremen midfielder Diego and Hamburg captain Rafael van der Vaart - are being hunted by Italian giants Juventus, according to reports here.

While Werder are battling hard to keep the services of their Brazilian midfield maestro Diego, Hamburg confirm they have already spoken to Juventus about naming a price for want-away Dutchman van der Vaart.

"We are in discussions with Juventus, but we can't say more at this stage," Hamburg spokesman Joern Wolf told German agency SID.

Van der Vaart is under contract until 2010, but can leave Hamburg next year for a fixed transfer fee of 1.5 million euros (2 million US dollars), but the 24-year-old is reported to be worth 20 million euros (29 million US dollars) in the current market.

The Dutchman has rejected a contract extension and has made no secret of his desire to join a big European club, having been famously photographed with a Valencia shirt last summer which drew Hamburg's wrath.

Meanwhile, Werder's director of sport Klaus Allofs denied rumours of an approach from Juventus for their star who has already been targeted by Spanish giants Real Madrid.

But Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri has long since voiced his desire to see Diego play at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino in Turin.

"There is no inquiry from Juventus, and we will not talk with any clubs about signing Diego, he is a firm part of our plans," said Allofs about his star who is contracted until June 2011.

Bremen Tell Juve: You’re Not Signing Diego

Werder Bremen director of sport Klaus Allofs have told Juventus to scrap any intention they may have of trying to sign their star man Diego.

The Bianconeri are in desperate need of a creative centre midfielder, and Brazilian star Diego is known to be towards the top of their most wanted list.

Yesterday the Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Juve sports director Alessio Secco had been in Germany trying to negotiate a deal to bring Diego to Turin in the summer.

Bremen were reported to have told Secco that they want €25m for the playmaker, with Juve only willing to pay €20m.

However Bremen director of sport, and former Germany international star Klaus Allofs has rubbished the speculation and has categorically stated that the club will not be selling their prized asset.

"Juventus has not submitted any offer, but in any case we do not have the slightest intention whatsoever to discuss a transfer of Diego, not with Juventus nor with any other team," Allofs raged.

Following these declarations Juventus may now scrap all plans to sign Diego, and concentrate their efforts on Hamburg star Rafael van der Vaart.

The Dutchman will certainly be available at the end of the season as he has a clause in his contract that allows him to be sold for just €1m in the summer of 2009.

    BREMEN REJECT JUVE DIEGO BID

Werder Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs has dismissed speculation Brazilian playmaker Diego could be on his way.

The 22-year-old, who signed a new contract keeping him at the Weserstadion until 2011 last September, has been linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus.

But Allofs insists the midfielder is going nowhere.

He told Die Welt: "There is no inquiry from Juventus and we will also not talk with any other club about Diego.

"We don't intend to give him up for the coming season."

either of them would be great I am not too fussed if we can't get Diego if VDV signs for us...but if both were available, I would prefer the Brazilian

as I said elsewhere we are definetly in talks with Hamburg for VdV, seems more realistic to me
makes me wonder what all the fuss of the last couple of days was all about?
shows how much we really know what is going on
I doubt Hamburg will tell this on tv if it wasn't true

If we get Diego, I swear I'll change my name to Jean Alain Boumsong. No joke.

ps: In other words, it's not gonna happen.
Lets make things interesting....If he does come you promise to do two things

    1) Admit Badass is the real informer in your Sig

    2) change your username to Boumsong

I would think getting VDV and M. Fernandez would be good....if we dont have the power to get Diego, we should be looking towards other less known yet promising like Fernandez...

Of course personally I would dream of Diego above all else.

It basicallly says that we will make a first offer of 25 M Euros this week. Hope there is some truth in it, Diego is teh shit and the exact kind of player I was always hoping for since Zidane left. If Secco manages it to sign this guy I will forgive him everything he has done so far. But somehow I doubt that this Dickhead is capable of signing a "WC Player". Positve thing for sure is that Ranieri wants Diego and the price 25 - 30 M. Remember we payed 22 for 2 substitutes and now 13 for guy who had one good season and is not really needed (Marchisio anyone), so money cant be the problem. Anyway, Secco get ur head out of ur ass and sign Diego for next season NOW!!!
