He did say it, in a press conference.
So... Ranieri didn't want Tiago? Your link tells something different:
"I wanted both Tiago and Almiron, no one is left out in the cold, but Nocerino and Zanetti are playing very well. I play whoever gives me the best possibility of winning."
And this shows he was just second choice after Sissoko. The truth is that he wanted them both, as he said yesterday:
“Why did we buy Sissoko? So that we could have two quality central midfielders like Tiago and Zanetti, as well as two men of substance such as Sissoko and Antonio Nocerino."

“We still believe in him and he has five months to show us the quality that we are all aware that he has,” continued the Roman.
And that idiot is still ruining Tiago!! Right?:)

Ok, it's time for sure to end this off-topic, because Diego indeed would be irritated while reading this:)

@Ikoninhosa - thanks.

We should have bought creativity in midfield. Why the board thinks CL spot is all wraped up is beyond me...

All I know is that our element of surprise, really helped us out during the first half of the season, but now our game is predictable...we have a great attacking line but if no one can spark from midfield...then we are doomed for a draw (if our defences hold
)

we didn't have to buy any creative player at all.....Diego/VDV for the summer yes, but not now.

all we needed to do is recall Giovinco and Marchisio.

I think Diego is double the player VDV is
Diego is really great! he has annormous talent and great creativity something we do lack of

after seeing the Cagliari game`s highlights I say we should really focus on Diego as our attack seems to lack that killer balls
Nedved was great and gave few but sometimes Nedved look to shoot rather than pass the ball to someone in a one on one situation!
Camoranesi is also a player who could make the difference but he is also half a playing player and half an injured player
Tiago isn`t bad at this too but he doesn`t contribute much so he is definitely not the answer
Diego on the other hand can dribble can shoot and best of all gives those killer passes constantly

as for VDV I think he is a very good player but also a bit overated

another thing is our defence which was really annoying to watch but that isn`t something that anyone could miss
bringing Diego and a top class defender and we might be able to think about giving Inter a fight next year

as for this year the top 4 would be good as I expect us to finish 4th behind a 3rd place Milan

Thats just the thing, everybody knows we are desperate need of creativity. Gio should have been called back at the very least. I guess we just didnt agree a call back clause in his loan contract.

We're just risking alot here, by assuming CL in the bag and planning high profile transfers for summer without carefully assesing our current strength to get there.

Well you can see it that way and you can see it the other way
The other way is that we didn`t call Giovinco back since he still needs time to mature and develop. while he can do that at Juve too, he can risk it. He wouldn`t not being as influential as he is at Empoli, and it can put a shadow on him and eventually ruining his career since his development stops...
At Empoli he doesn`t has that risk since he is their star

Code:
Liverpool join race for Werder Bremen playmaker Diego

Liverpool have joined the race for Werder Bremen midfielder Diego.

The Brazil international has emerged as one of the hottest transfer properties on the continent, with Juventus and Real Madrid regarded as frontrunners.

However, Corriere dello Sport says Juve chiefs are now concerned about their chances of winning Diego's signature after Liverpool made contact in the last week.

Hope that's not true....they have the money,we don't ;)

Ours first signing for the 2008/09 has to be DIEGO...No question about that...
Than we must get some good defenders (Barzagli, Zapata) and LB (Pasqual, Vargas)

They want have the cash...Cos they (the owners and Benitez) had heavy & hard arguments to buy Machrano for 27m€ at the first place...Diego is up there at 25m€ to 30m€...So I don't see how Tom Hicks & George Gillett will fork up anther 25m€+ for a player...
