Juventus chief Giovanni Cobolli Gigli insists that Didier Deschamps’ position is not in danger. “It would be a foolish thing to do,” he said.
The Bianconeri are the sole leaders of the Serie B table after their impressive win against Crotone on Saturday, but the Frenchman had admitted that his time on the bench could end in the summer even if he achieved promotion.
Furthermore, former Coach Marcello Lippi had been paired with a sensational return, but the World Cup winner allegedly called Deschamps to reassure him that Turin is not his next destination.
“There are still several matches before the end of the season, we need to remain focused,” Cobolli Gigli told Rai Radio Anch`io Sport.
“I feel that the team wants to do well and return to Serie A. Deschamps joined us this summer and agreed to work in Serie B with the penalisation.
“He is doing well, although we can still improve. In any case, it would be wrong and foolish to discuss his position,” added the President.
“We have been going through a difficult period, this week we managed to do well but we must remain concentrated to avoid the recent drops in concentration.”
The latest reports suggest that Gianluigi Buffon might remain with Juventus next season, while David Trezeguet and Mauro Camoranesi could leave, although Cobolli Gigli is aware that no player can be taken for granted.
“We are obviously interested in keeping Buffon, although other men are also important. Alex Del Piero? I would say that it is highly probable that he will stay with us, but we will wait and see.
“Fabio Cannavaro and Gianluca Zambrotta will always have a special place in our heart, I would like to see them in the Juve shirt again, but I know that won’t be easy.”
The Bianconeri chief also commented on Fabio Capello’s difficult time at Real Madrid, as the Merengues were held to a goalless draw by Betis over the weekend.
“I am not sorry nor happy for him. Superman doesn’t exist and life is difficult for everyone. Some circumstances can bring you to the top, others can make you suffer. I can only wish him well,” concluded Cobolli Gigli.
