That is a very sad and cinical statement to make. I would find it very hard to believe that a majority or even a large portion of professional athletes take drugs. And in response to that question, I was once a professional athlete and I had the oppurtunity to take performance enhancing drugs, but I did not. It's a matter of honour, immortality is worthless without integrity.
Let me hear your name then and see whether you became immortal or not. I'm just saying 3/4 of the people would take drugs. And personally I care very little for integrity. Yes it is cynical and sad, but so be it.

Yeah, everybody plays with his life, so why shouldn't I? And cheating is now a fundamental principle in sports, right?

Oh you mean immortal as in Pantani dying of an overdosis at the age of 34, Florence Griffith of a heart attack at 38, or Signorini becoming a cripple in his early thirties and dying a slow and painful death?

Look, a big part of all the professional athletes would in fact take drugs even when it would kill them at the age of 40. So let's see Del Piero as one of those athletes desperate to make it. And please, I might be sixteen, but I'm not stupid; EVERYBODY takes drugs. Even at an amateur level you see guys doing drugs, so I can't imagine very much professional athletes not doing drugs.

I know, it could be that he just trained his body more. But his body wasn't so trained previous years. Which seems strange to me since he's been playing football on a high level for years now.
No, not heroin and cocain, DP doesn't seem to be the kind of guy for such drugs. Speed perhaps, or was it just passion in his eyes? Probably just passion. Heroin and cocain aren't performance enhancing drugs anyway. Speed is, but it doesn't make the body stronger, just the spirit. I'm thinking of anabolics and amfetamines (don't know what the english word is).

My name is Dr. Ian Rasmus Westmark. And no, I'm probably not considered immortal, but that doesn't bother me, becuase I know that what I have accomplished is not tarnished.

By the way, I do appreciate your choice. But I simply think the bigger part of the people would take drugs.

I hope that's not true, because if it is, the entire sport is useless.

Okay, if we are talking about performance enhancing drugs, that's probably going to be steroids or other such drugs. Speed, Cocaine, and Heroin are all illicit drugs and would not make you a better athlete at all.

My father is a doctor and he says that speed does make athletes more concentrated on winning. It makes you more alert, he says. Though it doesn't make you a better athlete of course, but apparently you do are more focussed. And if Del Piero were to take speed, or for some moronic reason heroin and cocaine, I wouldn't care, cause you can't really call that cheating. Unless of course trying to kill yourself is a disadvantage for your oponents, but I think only Rivaldo can say that.

Del Piero in 96/97 was a thin, almost frail player who could only rely on his magnificent technique to get past his opponents.

Del Piero in 98 had become a robust, very muscular player, much proner to use his enhanced power and stamina to assert himself on the pitch.

Anyone denying this fact is either on a need to know football basis or just in total denial. But that's beyond the point.

I don't know what I find more disgusting : the omnipresent yet elusive doping mafia, made up of self-proclaimed sports doctors and prominent IOC officials, or the attempt by "fans" to mitigate the gravity of the situation, or even to legitimate this sad state of affairs.

People who say that it's "unfair" that Rio Ferdinand will miss Euro 2004 following his suspension are the partners in crime of those Dr Strangelove who administer their miraculous cures. What a sad world indeed, if those who are entitled to dispense justice are put in the stocks by the alienated masses.

Cocaine and heroin, you say? Oh the naivety. Cocaine is orange juice compared with some of the products that are circulating today. Nandrolone, EPO and the likes have the ability to kill a horse before you can say "drugs". At best, heroin will become a substitution product for a sportsman once he has retired and has turned into a drug addict as a result of all the poison he's been ingesting over the years. This is exactly what happened with Pantani.

Unless people are willing to stop living in denial and ready to wage a proper war against the doping mafia, the future will only bring us more tragic stories and "unexpected" deaths.

"You have chosen shame over war, and now you have both" - Winston Churchill.
