Anyway, taking drugs or not, Del Piero really should do something about those muscles. He didn't sustain the injury last night with a strange move or something.

If Del Piero doesn't perform at the EC we should ditch him. I'm tired of waiting. I'm tired of being down because del piero has once again injured himself.

    my question is..

    wtf are old man injuries?!?

pulling a muscle is not an old man injury, i've done it myself. Recurrence of injuries is a natural thing

Pulling a muscle on itself isn't an old man injury, but Del Piero does it with such ease that normally can only be seen by old men.

I've pulled a calf muscle myself and I'm just sixteen. But I said it wrong. It's the ease with which del piero sustains these injuries that makes him look like an old man.

when ur younger, u tend to heal faster. and when u're a sportsman, for some reason the healing process is slower than a person that's not active in sports. i remembered my biology teacher told me that once ;) i hope he wasnt lying :howler:

I do believe that medical staff of juve doped their players and DP must be one among them. He might not be aware of it or realized it but was willing to take a risk.

Another possible reason is once he had this muscle problem, he tends to have it again and again.

The best solution for him is to stop playing for the rest of this season including Euro 2004, have real good treatment and strengthen his muscle to the best conditorn for the next season.

The doping industry is well established in the world of football and has been for decades. Pretending the contray is blindness. I doubt it is as pervasive as it is in a discipline like cycling, but it is still there nonetheless.

An Italian magistrate, Guariniello, is currently investigating on what is referred to as "suspect deaths", i.e. deaths of ex football players who were still young and who died of cancers or other illnesses (ex : the Goerig disease as in the case of ex Genoa captain Signorini) which could be attributed to their taking drugs.

There has always been a climate of "omertà" (i.e. no one is willing to discuss the issue) about doping in the football world, but recently some ex players have started to talk, like for instance this ex Inter player from the 60's who revealed some weeks ago that doctors used to give him pills before a game.

In Juventus' case, the reaction that followed Zeman's suspicions a few years ago is quite revealing. Zeman simply stated the obvious back then by saying that there is no way that a player can accumulate so much muscular mass in such a short period of time, no matter how hard he exercises. He was notably referring to Vialli and Del Piero, who indeed became incredibly fitter in a matter of two seasons or so. Suddenly Agricola, who until then was hailed for his radical training methods, became a suspect.

Instead of addressing Zeman's points, the Juve players and staff diminished him and humiliated him. Some players like Vieri eventually admitted that they were injected creatine, which is quite a controversial product, as it is legal in Italy but illegal in France for instance, and whose effects on the body in the long term remain unknown.

The hypocrisy (or was it plain stupidity?) of some players on the matter has been flabbergasting. The fact that doctors put a spike into their vein before a game seemed perfectly normal to them. They remind me of those cyclists who said they always take a little machine with them at the Tour de France that measures the hematocrite rate in their blood : "my machine says I have enough red corpuscles, so that means Im clean!"

As expected however, the obscure forces that govern the Football world silenced Zeman the prophet of doom, and his career as a serie A coach ended very quickly afterwards.

Guariniello carried on with his inquiry though, and it seems he has accumulated quite a lot of disturbing material to this day, especially as regards Juventus.

Whatever the outcome of his inquiy is, it is high time that the Football world stopped burying its head in the sand, or one of these days we will wake up and hear the news of a serie A superstar who died of a heart attack in a hotel in Rimini.

    I hope he's clean!
I never thought he would ever take drugs, lets hop he really didn't!
Forza DP, get well soon, we need you back as soon as possible!

PS: Please get back to top form too!!

my take on this is that he probably does and I do think its the Juve medical staff in keeping with Lippi's style of play , i think the physical training is whats required

This might have made Dp stronger and given him more stamina but unfortunately that wonderful talent has been diminished by pumpin him with silly pills

You have to wonder why players like Dp, Totti, vieri, Ronaldo and the like always seem to pulling muscles, yes Totti recovers quickly but he does get injuries .

If the Italian media and in Italy in general did not expose Maradona because he dumped Italy out of the wc in 1990, we might not have been the wiser to his drugs take

Does anyone suppose that players like DP, Totti, Vieri, Ronaldo etc get injured so much could also be due to the fact that they are the star players for their respective teams and therefore come in for some 'special' treatment from the opponents?

They are usually extremely tightly marked and opponents will try to kick them and use various 'underhand' tactics to put them off their game, and maybe even go out to injure them just to stop them.

DP still comes in for this sort of treatment- I think through reputation alone, I'm sure if the opponents had seen his performances over the last couple of seasons, they wouldn't bother marking him at all! (only joking! - well just a bit)

I fail to see any connection between muscle strains and drugs. These are injuries picked up by professional footballers all the time, in every league on the planet. Professional footballers work their bodies to such an extent that we cannot not comprehend. The human body will break down with over-work. Del Piero has not seen a significant rest in a long time, so he continues with the muscular injuries.

So, I think it is a huge bag of sh*t for some sixteen year old child to bring the career of a great professional into disrepute by suggesting he is doping. All this with not a shread of evidence.
