Three newcomers in France squad, no Trezeguet

PARIS, Jan 31 (Reuters) - France coach Raymond Domenech picked three newcomers in his 36-man squad for two friendlies in Spain next week but left out Juventus striker David Trezeguet.

It's obvious he's going to stick to his decision. He would look even more stupid if he changed his mind. But Trez isn't so bad off for it. He's won a World Cup and a Euro and played the World Cup final two years ago, so he's had a wonderful NT career.

Well I don't think it's the professional reasons that keep Trez wanting to play for the NT, it's pride, love for country, there's nothing bigger than playing for your NT. The way he's playing this season and not to be called up...that's gotta hurt and it's obvious Domenech is just punishing him because of personal reasons. There's no other explanation.

Good thing is Trez keeps on scoring and making Domenech look like a fool. And now, without ZZ to save his ass, Domenech will show the whole world what a plonker he trully is.

Domenech is retarded.I don't easely insult people this way, but keeping Trez out of the squad after his performances this year show that Domenech has a problem.
Anyway good for us....

Domenech Gives Trezeguet Hope

Despite being left out of his French squad named today to face Spain and the Democratic Republic of Congo next week, trainer Raymond Domenech insists David Trezeguet still has a chance of making it into the Euro 2008 squad.

Trezeguet currently tops the goalscoring charts in Italy with 15 goals, but Domenech has chosen instead to go with Thierry Henry, Karim Benzema, and Nicolas Anelka for next weeks friendlies in what is widely seen as a snub to the Juve forward.

Domenech has named nine strikers in total in his squad, which will play Spain in a full international and DR Congo in an A international.

Trezeguet had earlier made it clear that he does not want to turn out for his country's 'A' side, while Domenech does not believe the Juve star has done enough to oust the three leading candidates to play for the senior team.

The French boss however, is adamant that the door to Trezeguet’s international future is not closed. "I know David's qualities. Someone doesn't become the top scorer in a league like Serie A for nothing but I have made my choice" he said.

"I don't need to test him. But I know how his mind is working. We have chatted and I understand for the moment his position, which is to not come and play for the 'A' team.

"He is free to make his own decisions; I don't want to force anyone. He is still available for the senior side and there are four months until the definitive (Euro 2008) squad is announced in May.

"I have other options at the moment. The strikers I have chosen are playing well" he added.

Jimmy Briand and Djibril Cisse are two of the strikers to whom Domenech is referring, while Jeremy Menez, is one of three players called up for the first time.

Can't say I mind this at all, from a Juve point of view, he can't get injured in those matches so that can only be good for us.
Although I find it sad for Trez, and funny to see how stupid Domenech is.

Personally I think trez should cut all ties with the NT until domenech is gone. The F.F.F. board knows that by leaving not only one of france's best but rather one of the worlds best finishers off the roster that domenech is playing out personal vendettas instead of keeping the NT's interests and goals in at the forefront. And once france is eliminated in euro 08 he will definitely be on the chopping block.

Losing 2 major tourney's is more than enough to get canned. The world cup is unforgivable, and euro 08 will add insult to injury. And this entire soap opera he has created with trez will will be the icing on the cake for firing domenech.

Snubbed Trezeguet focuses on Juve

David Trezeguet has revealed he is happy to dedicate his time to his club career after being snubbed again by France coach Raymond Domenech.

The Juventus striker may be the top scorer in Serie A this season with 15 goals, but he still failed to make it into an enlarged 36-man Les Bleus squad for Tuesday's 'A' international against DR Congo and a full international against Spain the following night.

The 30-year-old, who has close to a one-in-two strike-rate for his country, refuses to play for the 'A' team but is not considered good enough by Domenech to figure for the senior team, with Nicolas Anelka, Karim Benzema and Thierry Henry getting top billing.

Such an impasse means Trezeguet could miss out on this summer's European Championships, but the player is happy to plug away at club level in the hope of another France call-up.

"Domenech sent me a text message asking me my position in terms of the France 'A' team - we didn't speak on the telephone," Trezeguet told French daily L'Equipe.

"I replied to him in the same way, reminding him that I was still available for the senior team but not for France 'A'.

"After three World Cups and two European Championships, I don't believe I have anything to prove with the 'A' team.

"Looking at my situation at club level - we are currently third in the league - and looking at the fact I am the top scorer in Serie A, I prefer to devote my energy to Juventus rather than play a match against Congo that isn't going to teach us anything.:lol2:

"But I repeat, I will always be available for the senior team."

Trezeguet and Domenech have had a frosty relationship of late.

For much of last year, the France coach refused to pick the Juve man because he was playing in Serie B and did not believe the striker was playing at a high enough level to be considered for international selection.

Trezeguet, the only player who missed from the spot in the 2006 World Cup final penalty shootout won by Italy, was then overlooked for two Euro 2008 qualifying matches in October, despite his strong club displays in the Italian top flight.

He cannot understand this latest snub, adding: "Contrary to what he (Domenech) said in the past, that he judges people on their club performances, he seems to choose players based on his system of play.

"It's clear I don't figure among the three or four premier French strikers. From that, what I want to do now is finish the season well with my club, finish in the top four places in Serie A.

"Playing in Euro 2008? I am not so sure about that
."

Domenech, however, has not closed the door on a possible Trezeguet return for Les Bleus for this summer's tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

"I know David's qualities - someone doesn't become the top scorer in a league like Serie A for nothing," he said on Thursday.

"I understand for the moment his position, which is to not come and play for the 'A' team.

"He is free to make his own decisions, I don't want to force anyone. He is still available for the senior side and there remains four months until the definitive (Euro 2008) squad is announced in May."

Goal Italy Readers Vote Trezeguet Best Striker

David Trezeguet has been voted as the best striker in Serie A of the past 15 years by Goal.com readers in Italy.

Readers were asked to name the best 'bomber' of the past 15 years, thus referring to pure goalscorers, rather than all round forwards or second strikers.

The prolific Trezeguet has scored 155 goals in 255 appearances since joining the Bianconeri in 2000.

'Trezegol’ won 35 per cent of the votes, 11 per cent more than second-placed Fiorentina legend Gabriel Batistuta.

Batigol hit the back of the net a stunning 168 times in 269 appearances for the Viola between 1991 and 2000. He then also hit 30 in 63 in a Scudetto-winning spell at Roma, before a less successful stint at Inter.

In third place was Milan machine Filippo Inzaghi, who won 12 per cent of the votes.

SuperPippo is the current all-time leading goalscorer in UEFA competition with 63 goals, and he has enjoyed prolific spells at a host of clubs, most notably at Atalanta, Juventus and current club Milan.

In fourth place was former Lazio, Foggia and Bologna hero Giuseppe Signori, with Andriy Shevchenko in fifth. The full list will be revealed in the near future

I'd have to agree with that. Most of the voters on goal.com must be 15 year olds or something. Trez is great, but Batistuta was better.
I'd have to agree with both of you. Much bigger number of the voters on goal.com, apart from being 15, are probably Juve fans than Viola fans.

But even though i agree that Batistuta was a better player, the difference wasn't big at all. Both share very similar record (Batistuta has 0.58 goals per match while playing for Italian teams, Trezeguet has 0.60 goals per match while playing for Juve), both spent a year in serie B and both rarely missed a goalscoring oportunity.
Batistuta's advantage was , imo, that he knew how to score out of nowhere while for Trez it always has to be a created chance in order to score. And Batigol was more technical than Trez.

It's not being Juve fans, it's being narrow sighted :p They put Inzaghi ahead of Batistuta ffs.

Oh and spot on
