Trez confused by French rejection
Juventus striker David Trezeguet cannot understand why he has been left out of Raymond Domenech’s latest France squad.
Domenech has often overlooked the ex-Monaco hitman due to a conflict of personalities.
However, after a prolific start to the Serie A campaign with seven goals in six games, Trez was expected to be the first name on the Les Bleus team-sheet.
“I don’t understand it,” he told L’Equipe. “Domenech says he calls up players because of their performances for their clubs.
“Seven goals in six matches – I can’t do better than that. It’s the best start to a season I have ever had.
“When you are a starter for Juventus, Milan or Barcelona you should be called up automatically – full stop.”
Trezeguet must now sit out the Euro 2008 qualifiers against the Faroe Islands and Lithuania, but he may also opt to turn down any call-up for the crunch match against Ukraine.
“I’m at an age where I don’t really have to ask myself if I should be starting against Lithuania,” the 29-year-old rasped.
“I need things to be clear and the Coach needs to tell me face to face what his problem with me is.
“There is a limit. Even if I’m called up for Ukraine I will consider my options and I am giving myself two months to decide.”
