Domenech Responds To Trezeguet Criticism
France coach Raymond Domenech has hit back at David Trezeguet, the Juventus forward who slammed the boss for leaving him out of Les Bleus' squad. Additionally, he claims that the all-consuming pressure mounting on France will work in their favour. Lithuania and the Faroes beware...
Raymond Domenech (pictured) has spoken out on the David Trezeguet controversy that's dominated his preparations for France's meetings with Lithuania and the Faroe Islands.
The manager has received praise and criticism - in varying measures - for leaving out the on-form Juventus forward, responding with claims that Trezeguet did not seem suited to international football at present.
Now, with Louis Saha pulling out due to injury, Domenech has once again refused to summon Trezeguet.
"I'm happy the players who have shown up already, and I appreciate their value," insisted the manager.
"[Trezeguet] has his place? Yes, I agree. But so do others. I've never said that he doesn't have quality; what I've said is that I have to make choices."
The Juve forward has offered unfavourable comparisons between Domenech and certain Italian club coaches. The French coach, predictably, insisted that it's water off a duck's back.
He shrugged, "Whatever he says doesn't relate to me. My concern is with being the coach of France."
Moving on to discuss the football itself, he said, "We have a gun pointed at our head.
"That's good, it's going to motivate us. It's like playing cup matches – if we lose a game, we're out. We know that. We have to fight and play much faster. If we want to qualify, we need to win our three remaining matches."
Indeed, France currently sit two points off top spot side Scotland, and one behind Italy.
